As part of promoting their soap operas, actors from NBC daytime appeared on Go. It was an NBC game show that aired for a few months from the fall of 1983 until January 1984 and hosted by Kevin O'Connell. On YouTube.com there are some clips available for viewing.
Early in November 1983, the Days of Our Lives cast played against Another World. Unfortunately there are no full videos posted. This video has one portion that focuses on the Days cast along with explaining the rules of the show. The other video is an Another World fan video with their cast being the focus, though we do see the Days gang play. Go uses the end game format of Chain Reaction for the entire program though there are teams of five people. On regular episodes, four people plus a celebrity would play, but for the soap opera weeks it was only soap stars.
The Days of Our Lives actors are Suzanne Rogers (Maggie Horton), Ann-Marie Martin (Gwen Davies), Wayne Northrop (Roman Brady) Leann Hunley (Anna Dimera) and James Reynolds (Abe Carver). The cast from Another World was David Oliver (Perry Hutchins), Anna Stuart (Donna Love), Mary Page Keller (Sally Frame), Laura Malone (Blaine Ewing Cory) and Stephen Yates (Jaime Frame).
The last week of November 1983 (November 28 - December 2) had the cast of Another World versus Search for Tomorrow. The AW clip mentioned above had the end of the first episode against SFT. The same AW performers were involved, but the SFT team was Lisa Peluso (Wendy Wilkins), Sherry Mathis (Liza Sentell), Marcia McCabe (Sunny Adamson), Rod Arrants (Travis Sentell) and Michael Corbett (Warren Carter). They all obviously were flown out from New York to California.
Two full episodes (Wednesday and Friday) are available with the Another World and Search for Tomorrow teams. During the SFT/AW week, AW won 38,900 for charity, for a total of 98,100 if one combines the money they made playing Days. Their charities listed with the actors in parenthesis: National Society for Autistic Children (Mary), March of Dimes (David), Multiple Sclerosis (Laura), American Heart Association (Stephen) and United Way (Anna). Unfortunately in the episodes online, we don't see who the SFT players were winning money, but for the week they raised 5300 dollars.
These clips are nearly 30 years old and some of the actors are still recognizable, which I found really cool. It is just too bad that there wasn't more of it to enjoy online.
