This blog is mainly about soaps, though it will sometimes veer into other topics. The main purpose is to provide a space for when board discussion isn't enough as sometimes my thoughts and feelings take on a life of their own. Even if some of the shows I enjoy have been cancelled, I will continue to post about them. They may take away the shows, but they can't destroy the love.

AW: Flashes of the Past 1992
Looking around YouTube, and I found one of my favorite all time soap opera talk show appearances. Six cast members of "Another World" appeared on "A Closer Look with Faith Daniels". The show aired the morning of the 1992 Daytime Emmy Awards, so if one was a fan of the program, it was a total soap opera day. Below are my thoughts on viewing this again after all these years.

WGA Awards 2016
The WGA posted videos on Youtube of their award ceremony for 2016. Below are embedded links to the ones of interest for the WGA East as they are the branch that covers soap operas. (Figure this is legacy to how soaps used to be NYC based.) The Writers Guild of America gives awards to their members based on their work.

Flashes of the Past: More about "Go"
Back in 2013, I did a post about the game show "Go". Below is an update as more material is now available on YouTube. To read that post click here. Go was an NBC daytime show in the early 80s, so of course soap stars from that era appeared on that program hosted by Kevin O'Connell.

Soap Director Larry Auerbach Passed Away
I usually don't do in memoriam posts for behind the scenes personnel, but am making an exception for Larry Auerbach. He spent the majority of his career in soap operas. Click here to read his obituary from the DGA.

Soap Stars in Other Places: Super Password Soap Opera Special
Back in the 80s, Peggy McCay (Caroline) and John Aniston (Victor) from Days of Our Lives battled Linda Dano (Felicia) and Kale Browne (Michael) from Another World on Super Password. Since all of these shows aired on NBC, this was a good cross promotion for the network.

Another World's Anniversary
May 4, 2014 is the 50th anniversary of the soap opera Another World. The show created by Irna Phillips lasted for 35 years until it was cancelled in 1999. Below are some of my thoughts about the show along with other comments about its history from my memory as I was thinking about the program.

Books about TV: TV Tie-Ins
"TV Tie-Ins" is a scholarly work that explores the evolution of paperback books that were written about particular programs. Written by Kurt Peer, it features both the history of these books (until 1990) along with a master list of every book that was found within this genre. Since this was published in the late 90s, all of this research was a lot more difficult to come by compared to how it could be done today.

Another World: All My Afternoons
This is a summary of the Another World chapter in the 1979 book All My Afternoons by Annie Gilbert. After a summary of the show, the chapter is broken into four sections: a day in Another World, final taping begins, the mellowing of Rachel Cory and Soap Opera writers.
