WGA Awards 2016

The WGA posted videos on Youtube of their award ceremony for 2016. Below are embedded links to the ones of interest for the WGA East as they are the branch that covers soap operas. (Figure this is legacy to how soaps used to be NYC based.) The Writers Guild of America gives awards to their members based on their work.

This video is of the "General Hospital" team winning the Daytime Drama award. Ron Carlivati speaks about what happened at the program in his final months and the controversy with Tony Geary, without naming names. Of course, anyone who follows soaps closely enough knows what he was speaking about quite clearly. He also was surprised that the other show nominee "The Bold and the Beautiful" didn't win for the transgender story.

This video is of Melissa Salmons, who received an honor for her work for the guild. Currently, she works at "Days of Our Lives", but she also worked at "Another World", "As the World Turns", "Guiding Light", "One Life to Live" and "The Young and the Restless". Her credited soap opera writing career began with GL back in the late 80s.

What is interesting is that earlier WGA ceremonies are also available on their YouTube page. Here is a link to their playlist page. If you have the time, inclination or want to see more writers check it out. They have the full 2015 ceremony, as well as playlists for 2014, 2013, 2011, 2010.

The WGA West has their own website and YouTube page. Here is a link to their information. These ceremonies do not include soaps. There are links to 2016, 2015, 2014, and 2013 and other various videos. These don't just honor television, but also movies and video games.
