Soap Stars in Other Places: "The Talk"

For the 30th anniversary of CBS Daytime being number one, "The Talk" hosted four actors from the following soap operas: "Guiding Light", "As the World Turns", "The Bold and the Beautiful", and "The Young and the Restless". Below are my thoughts about this episode of the show, which aired on October 12, 2016, along with some photos and video clips. This was just one part of the celebration as it will continue throughout the next few weeks at the Paley Center in Beverly Hills, California.

Agnes Nixon has Died

Earlier today, (September 28, 2016), the news was released that soap creator Agnes Nixon passed away at 93. The writer and creator of many daytime soaps was in the industry from the radio era having a career for over seven decades.

AW: Flashes of the Past 1992

Looking around YouTube, and I found one of my favorite all time soap opera talk show appearances. Six cast members of "Another World" appeared on "A Closer Look with Faith Daniels". The show aired the morning of the 1992 Daytime Emmy Awards, so if one was a fan of the program, it was a total soap opera day. Below are my thoughts on viewing this again after all these years.

Here is a short entry on "The 'As the World Turns' Quiz Book" - Celebrating Forty Years of the Popular Soap Opera from 1996. The book by Gerard J. Waggett (author of other soap books), A Citadel Press Book was published by Carol Publishing Group. The cover price at the time was $9.95 in the US.

GL: June 30th Anniversary

June 30 is the television anniversary of Guiding Light and also my twitterversary. Yes that was an intentional choice as I would always be able to remember when I signed up for the service.

Back in the 80s, Peggy McCay (Caroline) and John Aniston (Victor) from Days of Our Lives battled Linda Dano (Felicia) and Kale Browne (Michael) from Another World on Super Password. Since all of these shows aired on NBC, this was a good cross promotion for the network.

Another World's Anniversary

May 4, 2014 is the 50th anniversary of the soap opera Another World. The show created by Irna Phillips lasted for 35 years until it was cancelled in 1999. Below are some of my thoughts about the show along with other comments about its history from my memory as I was thinking about the program.

Books about TV: TV Tie-Ins

"TV Tie-Ins" is a scholarly work that explores the evolution of paperback books that were written about particular programs. Written by Kurt Peer, it features both the history of these books (until 1990) along with a master list of every book that was found within this genre. Since this was published in the late 90s, all of this research was a lot more difficult to come by compared to how it could be done today.

As part of promoting their soap operas, actors from NBC daytime appeared on Go. It was an NBC game show that aired for a few months from the fall of 1983 until January 1984 and hosted by Kevin O'Connell. On YouTube.com there are some clips available for viewing.

Soapclassics stopped production of ATWT & GL DVDs

Last week, soapclassics.com sent an email to regular buyers that their contract with P&G is up and once current stock is gone no more can be bought. I would have written my thoughts about this when I got the message initially, but I feel an entry at that time would have been ill-advised. Anywhere so here goes.
