Soap Stars in Other Places: "The Talk"

For the 30th anniversary of CBS Daytime being number one, "The Talk" hosted four actors from the following soap operas: "Guiding Light", "As the World Turns", "The Bold and the Beautiful", and "The Young and the Restless". Below are my thoughts about this episode of the show, which aired on October 12, 2016, along with some photos and video clips. This was just one part of the celebration as it will continue throughout the next few weeks at the Paley Center in Beverly Hills, California.

The reason for the order of the shows listed was that the order that each show was presented. "The Talk" cast members were in 80s era garb for the special occasion and each actor pretty much was given only one question to answer. Each show had a montage, which in the case of the P&G shows focused upon the actors appearing on this special.

The "Guiding Light" actors included were Kim Zimmer (Reva), Robert Newman (Josh), Grant Aleksander (Phillip), and Beth Chamberlin (Beth). On the large screen they showed photos of each of Kim's Emmy wins. The group spoke about working on GL and the relationships on set. Talk was also about the main weddings each on screen couple had. Below is an official clip about Reva and Josh.

The "As the World Turns" actors included were Martha Byrne (Lily), Elizabeth Hubbard (Lucinda), Colleen Zenk (Barbara), and Ellen Dolan (Margo). They spoke about Martha and Liz's working relationship as Lily was Lucinda's adopted daughter, Colleen's IRL cancer and Ellen's spoke about crying also referencing her time on GL. Below is the official clip about Colleen's illness.

"The Bold and the Beautiful" actors included were Don Diamont (Bill), Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke), Scott Clifton (Liam), and Jacqueline MacInnes Wood (Steffy). They mentioned how Don was on Y&R before B&B, KKL being an original cast member, Scott spoke about being glad that he got to act amnesia, and Jacquie about travel. Below is the official clip about Don speaking about the Bill and Brooke relationship.

The "Young and the Restless" actors included were Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki), Jason Thompson (Billy), Christel Khalil (Lily), and Christian LeBlanc (Michael). Nikki and Victor's relationship was mentioned along with Billy's latest scandalous relationships. Christel was on Y&R about half of her life, while Christian spoke about his close working relationship with his on-screen wife. Below is a clip about how a Y&R fan thought she had an STI like Lily.

There were a couple of other clips. One was of the exhibit at the Paley Center. On one of the displays for GL, I spied a photo of the prom, and well that was in 1983, which was before 1986 oops on them. To see what I mean view it here. Julie Chen also spoke early in the show in host chat about Y&R being the show her mom watched, and she caught first when home from school on a day she was sick. To here more about that click here. Watching this show my biggest takeaway was I wish they had more time. It went so quickly, and I wanted to see more information. Thankfully additional interviews were done, which should be posted online eventually and the Paley Center is doing events for Y&R and B&B in the coming weeks so this isn't the only part of the celebration.
