Soapclassics.com posted a free episode from March 31, 1986. This episode aired two days before the 30th anniversary episode of As the World Turns. Here is my summary of the episode. The newest release for ATWT by the company is the last two weeks of the program with the extra option of a script reproduction.
Casey (Bill Shanks) is at Bob's (Don Hastings) house. He wants his hours and rotations changed at the hospital. They are interrupted by Lisa (Eileen Fulton) who brings guests Dee and Annie. They are in Oakdale for the anniversary party. Ellen (Patricia Bruder) is thrilled to see her girls. Nancy (Helen Wagner) is alone in this episode seeing her family as Chris was too tired to be at the pre-party. There were also references to how much Andy (Scott DeFreitas) had grown, which was fitting as he had been SORASed since Dee and Annie were last in town. Dee and Tom (Gregg Marx) speak about how he was in NYC with Barbara being interviewed by Arlene Francis. This is kind of awkward due to the status of Tom's marriage. Betsy (Lindsay Frost) and Steve (Frank Runyeon) are together and they mention how they aren't ready for another kid though their little one was fascinated by Annie's quads. Kim (Kathryn Hays) is pregnant though she is only due in the summer. Steve calls Iva (Lisa Brown) from the party about work, Meg (Jennifer Ashe) answers the phone at the farm. Iva lied and said she was with Steve, but really was with Lucinda (Elizabeth Hubbard) more on that later. Susan (Marie Masters) surprises everyone by coming to the Hughes' house. Emily is missing and Susan mentioned how Emily talked to someone about Oakdale. Betsy says she is glad to have Kim though Susan coming back brings back bad memories. Everyone leaves and Kim admits that Susan can't hurt her anymore as she and Bob are so happy together.
Margo (Hillary Bailey Smith) is upset over how she has to Hudson's department store case. Margo tells Hal (Benjamin Hendrickson) that she and Tom are going to get a divorce. The DA comes in about the Cummings investigation. Margo asks Hal about the Hughes file. Kevin was killed by Marsha. The DA shows them a model of the crime scene and explains how Kim lied about how Doug died.
Lucinda speaks with Ambrose for a second. She doesn't know why Iva is calling her. Iva tells Lucinda that she is Lily's biological mother. Lucinda thinks she is lying and runs out of the bar. Iva tells Lucinda about the home for girls "in trouble" and how she ran away fro her Uncle's farm to have a baby. Iva found out Martin Guest had her baby, who was Lucinda's husband. Lucinda offers to give Iva money, but all she wants is for Lily to be loved. She threatens Lucinda and says if she doesn't do a better job with Lily (Martha Byrne) she will tell the truth about her maternity. Iva says she wrote a note and put it in a safety deposit box if anything happened to her due to what Craig (Scott Bryce) has said. Lucinda is like she would hurt me. Iva leaves and Lucinda tells Ambrose that Iva is Lily's natural mother. Lucinda freaks out, says she will destroy Iva and throws a glass breaking it.
Lily is with Holden (Jon Hensley), Emma (Kathleen Widdoes) and Meg in the Snyder Farm kitchen. She has a baby chick that she found. Lily leaves to go to the barn to bring the chick back to its mom. Meg tells Holden how she is keeping a secret for him. Meg tries to call Dusty, but the Emma, Lily and Holden come into the room. Craig comes to visit. Lily and Craig talk about the argument that she had with Lucinda, but not she is happy. Everyone at the farm talks with Craig about buying Caroline's with Lisa. Lily mentions how she was there with Dusty and they met Tony Bennett. Meg says she wants to work there, once school is out in June. Lily says she is going to move back to Lucinda once break is over for now. Lily and Craig talk again about Lucinda and how Lily feels like a crazy one. Things got bad once her dad died. And Craig says that Sierra told Lucinda was trying, so she could also. Also Iva ignored Meg mentioning how Steve called. Once Iva returned to the farm, she was thrilled when Lily told her that she makes her feel better.
Lyla (Anna Sward) and Casey talk at work. He's one of eight kids. Lyla invites Casey for a home cooked meal. He isn't sure if she means a date or just food. She said she is safe with him and she isn't trying to date him. Now they are at Lyla's home and chatting about the hospital. Margo comes in and Casey goes to do his dishes.
Brian (Mark Pinter) is at work at the newspaper. Shannon (Margaret Reed) is supposed to meet him there, but she is missing. Harriet (Sloane Shelton) tries to cover for her as does Earl (Farley Granger). We see Shannon with a private eye, trying to find out more information about a man in a picture. Shannon joins them and then they all go to Diana's and run into Lisa. Alone for a minute, Shannon tells Harriet she needs to cash some of her Walsh stock to pay for the detective. Lisa invites Earl to the party.
While a lot of mothers were on this episode, it was not a traditional Mother's Day episode as everyone was respecting and loving their mom. What I did appreciate was how it focused on so many different families.
This blog is mainly about soaps, though it will sometimes veer into other topics. The main purpose is to provide a space for when board discussion isn't enough as sometimes my thoughts and feelings take on a life of their own. Even if some of the shows I enjoy have been cancelled, I will continue to post about them. They may take away the shows, but they can't destroy the love.
