Two major news items came out in the world of soap operas this week. The first was information on the Daytime Emmys being broadcast on television. The other is how on Memorial Day, the only soap airing a new episode is Days of Our Lives.
To see the Daytime Emmys this year, you have to have cable or a satellite to see it as so far there is no streaming option. It will air on HLN (the channel that airs Showbiz Tonight, Nancy Grace and used to be called Headline News). The air date is June 23, at 8 PM in the east. While this news is great, there was a controversy earlier this week when it was floated around that NATAS, which holds the awards wanted to move the Younger Actor & Actress category to the the technical ceremony, which is held a week earlier. Thankfully people freaked out on twitter, I saw this on my timeline and it was changed rather quickly.
To find out more about the Daytime Emmy broadcast, read what ABC: Soaps In Depth has to share. When I went to AOL's website earlier this week, I saw a place where you could enter a contest to win tickets for two to the Daytime Emmys. Also there is supposed to be viewer interaction (does that mean a twitter ticker on the bottom of the screen or something else?) and tributes to both All My Children and One Life to Live. Thank goodness, if they didn't honor those shows I would have been screaming.
For Memorial Day (May 28, 2012) , General Hospital, The Bold & the Beautiful and The Young & The Restless will be airing reruns. If someone wants a new episode soap opera fix they have to check out NBC's Days of Our Lives. ABC airs the Indy 500 on Sunday, but if there is rain, it would be moved to Monday afternoon. So while I'd prefer a new episode of GH instead of a repeat, I'd rather have that then sit in front of the television expecting a soap opera and getting a car race. B&B and Y&R are showing reruns as well. Nowadays these are all recent episodes, which is why I use the term rerun. Years ago on holidays we'd get older episodes of B&B and Y&R, which was a lot of fun. Hopefully the Days episode is decent, as if anyone is bored and sampling the program on a holiday they get some entertainment.
This blog is mainly about soaps, though it will sometimes veer into other topics. The main purpose is to provide a space for when board discussion isn't enough as sometimes my thoughts and feelings take on a life of their own. Even if some of the shows I enjoy have been cancelled, I will continue to post about them. They may take away the shows, but they can't destroy the love.
