On Days of Our Lives this week, Will (Chandler Massey) came out to his parents Lucas (Bryan Datillo) and Sami (Alison Sweeney). This was not a happy occasion as Sami was upset that Will didn't tell them sooner.
It took time for Will to become comfortable enough for himself that he could admit to being gay. He first told his grandmother Marlena (Deidre Hall). Later he was able to tell his gay friend Sonny (Freddie Smith), and also told his former girlfriend Gabi (Camila Banus).
Will wanted to tell his father Lucas, but once he found out that Lucas and Sami got back together he balked. Lucas and Sami have a tempestuous relationship and have gone back and forth for years. This week many of the secrets within the family have come out beyond Will's sexuality. Sami also found out how Lucas went to prison to protect Will after he shot EJ (James Scott). The other big piece of information was that Will took the job with EJ due to being blackmailed by his former stepfather.
When Sami found out that Marlena knew, she was upset that her son would confide in his grandmother instead of her. The fact that Marlena is a psychiatrist and the person who helped Will come to grips with his life was not an issue. After finding out about Will, Sami couldn't take it and she ran out of the apartment. Instead of confiding in someone neutral or talking to someone within the family, she ended up telling EJ everything. EJ admitted that he knew Will was gay as it was apparent to him. Sami was frustrated that everyone except for Lucas knew it. EJ actually gave Sami good advice. He said it wasn't about her, but Will. And that at his most vulnerable Sami turned her back on her son by leaving.
While Sami was out with EJ, Lucas tried to reassure their son. Eventually Sami got back and she and Lucas talked about everything. Lucas said this time, Will may be able to forgive her, but in the future, she may not be so lucky.
Hopefully, Sami can get over her negative feelings towards her mother and be able to be a parent to Will. This is not an easy time for him and he deserves the support of both his mom and dad. Eventually Will needs to find a love interest, but at least this story is moving in the right direction with Will finally coming to grips with his sexuality.
