GH: Michael Killing Claudia

This past fall Michael killed his stepmother Claudia. Everyone in his life is supposedly doing what is best for Michael, whether it is his parents, Carly and Sonny, stepfather Jax, siblings Dante, Kristina, and Morgan or godfather Jason. What these people think is the correct course of action is what is unclear and is causing the conflict.

Michael killed Claudia to keep her from kidnapping his newborn sister Josslyn. Claudia kidnapped Carly while she was in labor, delivered the baby and was going to leave with the child. Carly looked on horrified as Claudia was holding her child. Michael came in and hit Claudia in the head with an ax handle. She died instantly. Carly and the baby were brought to the hospital while the evidence was being eliminated that linked Michael to the crime.

Carly, Sonny and Jason want to protect Michael at all costs. They don’t care who else may get hurt in the process and were willing to sacrifice themselves in the process. Sonny would have gone to prison to protect Michael from serving time or being labeled a murder. Carly perjured herself in court, to sell Sonny’s lies. Jason did what he could to help them hide Michael. The evidence that could prove Michael acted in self-defense was destroyed and everyone lied. Maxie who saw Michael and Sonny together, after the murder was only kept safe due to her relationship with Spinelli. If they hadn’t have trusted her Maxie would have been killed to keep Michael’s secret from coming out to the police.

Jax also wanted to protect Michael as well as Morgan and the new baby from Sonny. He knew that Michael killed Claudia, but it was Sonny’s fault that Claudia was in their lives. If Sonny wasn’t a mob boss, none of this would have happened. Sonny would not have been a target for murder, and Michael would have never been shot. If Michael had never been shot, he would not have lost a year of his life. Jax was willing to allow Sonny to go to prison for a crime he didn’t commit. No Sonny meant Carly could not run off to help Sonny, no mob wars, no violence. The kids could grow up normally with the any interference like how Dante grew up with his mother and his father out of the picture.

Dante chose his moral beliefs over protecting his brother Michael. While he knows Sonny has committed crimes, he believes that Sonny should not go to prison based upon lies. It is understandable that most everyone is upset with Dante. Lulu stayed by his side, but Michael’s parents, Jason and his siblings are upset. The Quartermaines may blame Carly for much of this as if Michael had not been adopted by Sonny, he never would have gotten into this situation. Lucky tried to help as Michael’s cousin, but is a cop like Dante. He couldn’t really get into the middle of the situation officially due to conflict of interest.

Kristina and Morgan plus Michael’s cousin Molly (who is Kristina’s half-sister) wanted to protect him. They knew about Michael being guilty, but kept the secret. Morgan though believes in Dante, and feels his older brother wants to help even when the rest of his family disagrees.

Michael wanted to tell the truth, but no one would let him. He went to Mac Scorpio and admitted everything, but the police commissioner thought he was lying to protect his dad. Even his brother Dante thought Michael was being dishonest. Michael produced a shirt with blood on it that backed up his story. Now Michael is awaiting sentencing for a crime he committed to protect his mother and sister.

Almost everyone involved did the wrong thing (cover up a murder) for the right reason (protecting Michael). If the truth had been told from the beginning the story would have ended months ago. Instead we are at this place. Michael is in pain from what he went through and has yet to deal with it. In the last two years, he was shot, spent a year in a coma, and woke up it brain-damaged, found out his stepmother caused his shooting, and then killed said stepmother. All of these things alone would be challenging, but together, it spells disaster. Regardless of the punishment he may get for the crime, hopefully that time will allow him to heal.

Adding to all this is the fact that Michael didn't actually kill Claudia. He knocked her out. Jason wrapped her up and put her into a shallow grave on a hill side while it was raining allowing Franco to easily dig her up.

Franco took her back to his studio for the photographs (this is the scene where she says, in a hoarse voice, "Can I get up now?"). Franco killed his manager planted some of Claud's DNA and the body before the warehouse fire.

That body is what everyone thinks is Claudia but the fact that she's not dead isn't why Michael will be getting out.
