ATWT: Carly & Jack Collection Disc One

This is my summary of the first disc of the two disc Carly & Jack Collection from As the World Turns.

Episode One: September 19, 1997

Lily (Martha Byrne) is freaking out at her home while little Luke is asleep in his room. There is a thunderstorm raging and Lily just called Holden (Jon Hensley) in Montana, but hears Molly's (Leslie Kay) voice on the phone. Molly was her best friend, moved into her house and now is stealing Holden. Of course, this would push Lily over the edge. Lily takes the totem pole gift that Holden made for her and throws it out of the door. Emma (Kathleen Widdoes) comes to see Lily after returning to Oakdale from visiting Caleb in Seattle. Lily is feverish, overly emotional and seems to be nearly hysterical. Emma wants Lily to go back to the farm with her, but she won't. Luke cries for his mom, and Emma goes to tend to the boy. Lily goes outside in the pouring rain and remembers being with Holden and then flashes to the memory of Holden and Molly having sex. She's losing it, as Emma becomes panicked seeing the front door wide open, as Lily has gone out in the storm.

Meanwhile in Montana, Jack (Michael Park), Carly (Maura West), Holden and Molly are all at Carly's farm. Molly is the cook, while Holden is there for work. Jack thinks that Molly and Carly are up to no good and have a secret connection. Jack was right about that, as they are cousins. Molly lied to Holden about hearing Lily on the other end of the phone. Later Molly decides to play a tune with a reed of grass, she offers to teach him. They compete and Holden is hopeless, while showing off Molly cuts her lip. They look at each other, but don't kiss. Inside Carly and Jack flirt, and Jack admits to the crush he had on Molly when he was 12. Carly says he still wants Molly, and he becomes frustrated. She challenges him and asks how he would deal with a real woman. Jack then kisses Carly.

Emily (Kelley Menighan Hensley) comes into Fairwinds where David (Chris Browning) is living. She overhears Lily in a taped conversation. David denies it, but once he leaves the room she finds the recording. Emily pleads with David to tell the truth, and he agrees as that part of the episode ends.

Episode Two: January 29, 1998

Sam (Sherri Alexander) goes to see James Stenbeck (Anthony Herrera) in jail, about how she loves Kirk (Tom Wiggin) and to leave her alone. She tries to argue with him, but seems closer to him than ever. Kirk is the new owner of The City Times and Teague (P.J. Brown) who is holding Carly and Jack hostage is his new bodyguard. He was a dirty cop.

Margo (Ellen Dolan) and Hal (Benjamin Hendrickson) wonder where Jack and Carly have been. They are at the police station working the Teague case. Margo goes to see Ben (Pete Parros) and Lucinda (Elizabeth Hubbard) as they broke into Teague's home. They found some evidence, but it can't be used to help Holden as it wasn't found with a warrant.

Carly and Jack are together suffering from hypothermia in the tool shed that Teague trapped them in to protect himself. Carly is out of it, and believes Jack is her abusive former boyfriend. He is able to calm her down and recognize who he is. Carly feels like no one loves her, and Jack admits that he needs her.

Andy (Scott DeFreitas) is working photographic film and developing some pictures of a car wreck. He is doing that to remind himself of what drinking too much can do. Nikki (Jordana Brewster) makes him show her the photos, and tells her what they are about. She angers Andy for calling him out on wanting to help people due to his past, and then he leaves.

Episode 3: December 31, 1998

All of this action takes place in the last few hours of 1998 in Oakdale. The weather is awful and that impacts what happens to the characters we see on this episode.

In this episode, Carly goes into labor with her son Parker. Unfortunately, due to the ice storm she has to deliver the baby in the living room, as the ambulance got into a crash. Thankfully Carly was not alone and Julia (Annie Parrisse), John and Jack (Larry Bryggman) were there to help her. Julia already dealt with birthing a child as she was there for Lily and she thought of that experience. John as a doctor, had delivered babies in the past, but he still contacted her OBGYN Dr. Samuels for more information. Jack was the calm in the storm for Carly keeping her relaxed as possible during labor.

Georgia (Jamie Dudney) is going to a frat party in Lucinda's limo. She sees Eddie (Nathaniel Marston) on the road and asks the driver to pull over, causing them to crash. Unfortunately it was not serious as no one was injured, though they landed into a ditch. Fenwick the driver (who we don't see) leaves to go for help as cellphone reception is spotty. Georgia and Eddie talk about the party, and how he was walking to the event. She wanted to go and find someone to hook up with as she will be 18 at her next birthday. Eddie seemed taken aback by Georgia's comments. Eventually Eddie and Georgia become cozy to keep warm, as he gives her his coat and rubs her hands. They nearly kiss as that part of the program ends.

The storm caused Margo, Tom (Scott Holmes) and Emily to be stuck at the police station. Hal is also working that night. There is awkwardness due to Tom and Emily having had an affair. Tom and Margo help on the phones, Margo had a caller who seemed to have a crush on her. They discuss resolutions, and Tom tells her that he plans on getting her back in the new year. Emily meets a young girl named Susan, whose father was brought in for drunk driving. Susan was scared and Emily comforted her. At the end of the episode Susan left with both her parents as her mother Annie came to pick them up from the station. Orlagh Cassidy (Doris on Guiding Light played Susan's mom, which was a bit of a surprise and with that she had a P&G Irna Phillips trifecta as she is one of the few performers in modern times to appear on Another World, Guiding Light and As the World Turns.) Emily eventually was able to leave and went to the hotel, and the lights went out on her, there was someone lurking at her door.

Molly goes to see Brad (Nick Kokotakis) to get help for Andy who fell on the ice. Andy comes in and is out of it. He was at the strip club Oasis and was drinking. Brad mentions how Camille ended it with Ben, but he still isn't happy. Andy comes back in and admits he doesn't have a key to the apartment, so Molly leaves with him. Off screen, Andy passed out and went to bed. Molly comes back to Brad's with champagne, party hats, and balloons. Brad asks Molly about her relationship with Andy. She admits about being his designated driver, as she saw his car in the parking lot. Brad talks about how Molly puts everything into what she wants, and that she is motivated. They dance and nearly kiss, but it isn't meant to be right now.

Episode 4: July 13, 1999

Carly is married to Brad (John Loprieno), but it isn't a happy marriage. She is faking an injury to keep him at arm's length. Brad finds her bending down to pick a pink dress. They talk about her going to a doctor. After Brad leaves, Carly finds out Jack isn't working by calling the police department. She gets dressed and then goes to find Jack. She finds him in the boathouse, fixing "True Love", which is his project a boat to forget about her. They make out, and talk about the future after her marriage to Brad ends. Camille (Lauren Martin) who went to the boathouse to pick up her sweater, sees them kissing, but they have no idea she was there. Carly set an alarm to know when she has to leave, before she does Jack gives her a gift of a compass. Meanwhile Brad gets a visitor, Camille who tells them they need to talk about Carly.

Reid (Keith Coulouris) wants to go away with Julia, but she doesn't want to go without knowing the location. Emma stops in to try and convince Julia not to go as she should not marry Reid. Emma wants her nephew Jack to get back together with Julia. She doesn't succeed, but does find out where Reid plans to take Julia. Reid overhears that and decides to change where they are going to go.

Andy is at a bar, but isn't drinking. He goes off on Reid, about Molly. She and John call around to try and find Andy as he never came home last night. When Andy hears his name, he ignores the call. Eventually Andy comes home, and he and Molly kiss after he admits that he stayed sober.

Episode 5: December 12, 2000

Jack is avoiding his wife Julia by hanging out at Java Underground. He speaks with Isaac (Paul Taylor) about his situation and later with Craig (Hunt Block). They share some Cuban cigars. Craig and Bryant (Todd Rotondi) fight over woman named Ruby and the strain in their relationship. It looks like Ruby is up to no good. Earlier in the episode, Bryant doesn't want anything from his father, even if it meant a trip to see his mother and sister in Montega.

Julia is by herself decorating the house for Christmas. She has a special stocking for her baby's first Christmas. Carly comes in and they get into it. Julia defends herself as Carly accuses her of tracking Jack into marriage for the baby. After Carly leaves, Jack comes home and he notices the stocking that Carly burned. Jack comforts Julia, saying that he was spending time with Carly solely for work and that his family comes first.

Katie (Terri Conn) and Simon (Paul Leyden) plan to get married so he won't get deported. They aren't in love as Simon wants to be with Lily, but this is his only choice. Katie lost her virginity to Simon and has feelings for him. Margo, Tom and Lily all crash the event and try to stop it. Lily becomes frustrated about the situation as she knew he cheated on her, but with her worst enemy. Katie sees the INS coming and Lily agrees to help them stall the feds.

When it comes to the episodes, I think I enjoyed the New Year's Eve episode the most due to what was going on in the story. I didn't really care for the fifth episode at least when it came to Carly and Jack, but I found other parts interesting. The other thing this disc did was remind me how much I enjoyed the original actor who played Brad. I was so disappointed when he left ATWT all those years ago.
