GH: Matt Murdered Lisa Niles

On Monday, June 11, Dr. Matt Hunter (Jason Cook) said goodbye to Port Charles after pleading guilty to the murder of Lisa Niles (Brianna Brown). For this crime, Matt will spend five years in Pentonville Prison.

The reason it took so long for this case to be solved was Matt blocked out the entire incident. He had been drinking excessively at the party, which was held in his honor that was thrown by his brother Patrick (Jason Thompson) and sister-in-law Robin (Kimberly McCullough). Matt was upset that his girlfriend Maxie (Jen Lilley) didn't show up, and he was beginning to get closer to Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst).

Eventually Maxie got on the boat, and she saw Matt kill Lisa. Matt attacked Lisa with a wrench over everything she had done to Robin. Lisa did things such as mess up Robin's HIV medication and tried to infect Patrick with Robin's blood in the attempt to make him HIV positive also, which was disturbing.

Once Lisa died everyone was a suspect, eventually Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) thought it was Patrick, who blocked it out, but eventually realized it was Matt. He figured this out due to how Maxie claimed she was a murderer. Maxie blamed herself for Robin's "death" (air quotes as the audience knows Robin is alive, but the characters have no idea.)

Maxie went as far as going to prison to protect Matt. She was harassed and it was an awful experience. Spinelli was able to get the truth out of her, and then promised not to share her secret. Eventually he couldn't take it anymore and when he had evidence of the murder (video from the Haunted Star), he shared it with the court. That wasn't enough to free Maxie, so he shared what he knew.

Maxie was livid, but eventually she signed the paperwork to free herself from prison by testifying against Matt. Her mom Felicia (Kristina Wagner) who had just come to town due to this situation as relieved as was Mac (John J. York), who raised her. Finally it seemed that Mac began to hate Spinelli less than in the past.

With a short time to spare, Maxie convinced Matt to marry her off camera so she wouldn't testify against him and he could continue being a doctor helping people. He could also be there for Patrick and his niece Emma. Once Matt remembered what he did, he couldn't live with the guilt.

This story ran for months as I wrote a blog entry at the end of October last year about the boat cruise. Thankfully the plot is now over and we may move on to something else for Maxie and the others.
