Y&R: Adam Proposed to Chelsea

On Monday's US episode (June 25, 2012) of The Young & The Restless, Adam (Michael Muhney) proposed to Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan). While their relationship developed quickly, I'm glad for it.

Adam and Chelsea's relationship happened as they were both outcasts. Adam was blind at the time, and everyone shunned Chelsea due to her pregnancy with Billy's (Billy Miller) baby. She gave that child to Billy Abbott and his wife Victoria (Amelia Henlie) to raise. This was difficult for Chelsea and Adam supported her, as she signed away all parental rights to the boy who was named John after his late grandfather John.

Since Chelsea and Adam were friends, and she didn't have much money, Adam invited her to move in with him at the Athletic Club. She had been living there during the pregnancy, but it was paid for by the Abbotts. Chelsea was offered enough money to live comfortably for the rest of her life, but she decided against it. For once, Chelsea was not conning anyone, and she wanted to make a life for herself. Adam noticed this change and liked it. Adam is extremely supportive of Chelsea as a friend also. He wants her to improve herself and not settle for being a bartender at Jimmy's. Chelsea hadn't even graduated high school, but Adam encouraged her to take a GED to have a degree.

While this was going on, Adam and Chelsea slept together. The romantic relationship made Sharon (Sharon Case) jealous and as Adam's former lover, she treated him almost bitterly. Sharon couldn't believe that Adam would be interested in someone like Chelsea. There is still one lose end in all of this, Chelsea is Jeffrey's (Ted Shackelford) child, though he won't admit it. Chelsea blurted out that she loved Adam, but when he didn't reciprocate she was worried he didn't even care. If anything Adam seemed to fall for her before he said it out loud. Chelsea's past makes her wary of relationships, if you had been living as a con artist of course you may worry someone else may make you a mark.

Adam had planned to ask her to marry him at the arts gala in front of the entire town. Since the event was a bust, they left. Chelsea got cold and put on his coat to warm up, finding the ring in his pocket. Outside Adam finally admitted to her that he loved her, as the rain came pouring down on them. Nowhere else in Genoa City was it raining, which was kind of unrealistic, but it made for a good visual.

Hopefully Chelsea and Adam will be united as a couple as they deal with whatever problems come there way for a time. I doubt everyone will accept their engagement. Two pariahs falling in love can cause a lot of conflict and good story, I hope Y&R follows through on the promise of this new couple.
