This is just a short write up on the new Dallas. I apologize for any errors as this is extremely stream of consciousness.
On June 13, 2012 , TNT aired two new episodes of their 10 show run of Dallas. The famous prime time soap aired from the late 70s to the early 90s, spawned several television movies, a spinoff Knots Landing and catapulted its stars into the stratosphere. People used to hold Dallas parties and the episode that announced who shot JR (Larry Hagman) was one of the top rated television shows (non-sports) for all time.
Seeing JR, Bobby (Patrick Duffy) and Sue Ellen (Linda Gray) together again was appreciated. Bobby has moved on with Ann (Brenda Strong). JR was suffering from depression and in a hospital, but by the end of the second episode, he was back to normal, crossing and double crossing everyone. Bobby was dealing with having cancer, and keeping it a secret. Sue Ellen is involved in politics, and is still a force to be reckoned with in Texas. Lucy (Charlene Tilton) and Ray (Steve Kanaly) also had cameos. I also liked hearing the Dallas theme as it had a real credits sequence. Unfortunately there were no pictures to go along with the names, but you can't have everything.
I don't really want to comment on the younger generation yet, as two episodes isn't enough to get a clear picture. John Ross (Josh Henderson) seemed a lot like his daddy JR, and on top of that he's kinky too as there was rope in his one scene with a guest star Marta (Leonor Varela). Christopher (Jesse Metcalfe or as I think of him Miguel on Passions) being Bobby's adopted son nearly got freaky with his fiance Rebecca (Julie Gonzalo) in the ladies' locker room. We saw their wedding tonight and Adele's Turning Tables played in montage. John Ross is dating Christopher's former girlfriend Elena (Jordana Brewster) though she and Christopher still have feelings for each other. Elena thought Christopher broke up with her via email, and that's one mystery that still needs to be solved. Christopher isn't biologically a Ewing, his mother Kristen Shepard (who shot JR is Sue Ellen's sister, so the boys are first cousins on the other side of their heritage.)
The first two episodes of Dallas on TNT were great fun. I hope they continue to provide that level of entertainment throughout the summer.
