GH: Two Big News Items

This week two big things happened with General Hospital. GH is officially moving to 2 PM ET and 1 CT and PT starting on September 10, 2012. The other surprising thing was that General Hospital premiered a new opening on Friday, June 29, 2012 usually such changes happen on Mondays, not the last day of the month.

Early in the week, we found out via social media, about General Hospital time slot switch. starting on September 10, 2012. It was interesting that the press release only appeared later and twitter was the first communication.

When it comes to the time change itself, I am not surprised as it was rumored since Katie was picked up in much of the country for 3 PM. That said since Katie is a syndicated show, in some areas, it will not be on ABC. In those areas, it is uncertain when GH will air and who knows if ABC will give leeway to air GH in other slots during the day.

Hopefully closer to September 10, I'll be able to find a list of ABC affiliated stations to see when the program will air around the US. I'll post it on this blog as a reference.

Earlier this week on Twitter, the premiere date new GH opening was announced by executive producer Frank Valentini. This 10 second opening uses promotional pictures of the cast along with a CGI version of the hospital and logo. Certain characters are focused upon, but the others you can see if you are able to watch it in slow motion.

I don't think it is a great new opening, as with such a short amount of time it would be difficult to be brilliant. The one thing I appreciated with the last style was how we saw the names of the actors and characters. Unfortunately this version eliminated that feature.

So far it doesn't seem like people are overjoyed with the new opening. I'm in the camp, that I wish they would have used a variation of the ambulance, but in 10 second form. I also don't care for the promo pictures as they are promo pictures, we're seen hundreds of times. I like seeing new shots of the actors, so I felt disappointed there wasn't new and consistent photography of the stars.
