OLTL: SoapNet New Year's Day Marathon Part 1

This weekend SoapNet is airing a 14 hour marathon of One Life to Live episodes. The programs date from 1979-2010. I am going to summarize the episodes in 3 parts. Part one will focus on the three episodes from 1979, 1987 and 1988. Part two will be the episodes from the 1990s. Part three will be episodes that aired after 2000.

Episode One: March 6, 1979

This episode is one of the most memorable and noted of One Life to Live's history. Karen Wolek (Judith Light) is on the stand testifying about what she knows about Marco Dane's (Gerald Anthony) death. Marco was Karen's pimp, and she was being blackmailed into prostitution. Sadly her husband Larry (Michael Storm) saw the whole thing and was devastated. Viki Riley (Erika Slezak) was the defendant, and Karen knew she was not guilty. It was her john Talbot Huddleston (Byron Sanders). The defense attorney Herb Callison (Anthony Call) destroys Karen to get her to admit to how she works as a common whore. Tina (Andrea Evans) is with Greg (Paul Joynt) and they are discussing the case. Paul Martin (the All My Children character played by William Mooney) appears as Viki's defense attorney. Viki is supported by her husband Joe (Lee Patterson) and her half-brother Tony (Phillip McHale).

Episode Two: March 9, 1987

Tina goes down the falls in Argentina, during her pregnancy with C.J.. Cord (John Loprieno) and Kate (Marcia Cross) are watching from the shore and they can do nothing to save her. Maria (BarBara Luna) and Clint (Clint Ritchie) have returned to Llanview. After leaving Maria in the hospital, he goes to Pam (Christine Jones) and Asa (Phil Carey) catching them up with what happened in South America, and they tell him how the kids have been doing. It is Clint's birthday and the boys have a cake. He wished on his birthday cake that he and Viki would get back together. Max (James DePaiva) and Gabrielle (Fiona Hutchison) are talking about their relationship. Gabrielle talks about how her father was a drug dealing murderer. Max feels sorry for himself, and she wants to deal with her own grief. Cord goes off on Max, while Kate tries to stop him. Kate blames herself as she wasn't able to shoot her brother to save Tina. Maria calls Mari Lynn (Tammi Ammerson). She talks about Rick (Richard Grieco). Viki is out of town off screen with Tom Dennison, and there are references to secrets. The episode ends with Max remembering how he offered Tina a place to stay and a home for her child. Then we see Cord thinking about his past with Tina with flashbacks. He falls apart and wonders why this would happen in his life.

Episode Three: May 13, 1988

The Buchanan City story in which Clint is getting ready to marry Ginny (Erika Slezak). Viki wants to get to him, though he is in 1888. Miss Blaize (Loyita Chappel) had come to Pennsylvania to tell Viki about everything. Now Viki met with Clear Eyes to join Clint in the past. Clint ended up there due to what happened on his horse Oakie. The outside scenes for this story were filmed on location in Tuscon, Arizona, but none of those were in this episode. In the past, Cord was Cody, and Buck was Asa. Cody was involved with May (Brenda Brock who ended up being Brenda in 1988). Clint gives up on being back with Viki, so he falls for Ginny, hence their engagement. At the end of the episode, Viki shows up and finds Clint marrying her ancestor.
In the present day, Bo and Asa are arguing and Cord shows up as Renee was let go from prison. They talk about Steve Holden being in a coma after being attacked. The person who attacked him was George, who sent Clint into the past. What is weird is that Bo starts disappearing from the photo album. Max and Gabrielle are hoping that Steve gets better as at this time, Gabrielle and Steve are married. Jon Russell (John Martin) goes to see Asa, and Bo goes off on John about Renee. Bo was not really Bo at this time, but Patrick London, though the audience did not know that yet. Cord could tell something was up with Bo as an outsider as he had only come into the Buchanan family after Bo had left Llanview.

That's my summary of the first three episodes of the OLTL marathon. The first episode had a very different tone than the other two. The 1980s stories tend to be larger than life than what happened earlier in Llanview.
