This is my stream of consciousness style review of the six daytime soap operas that aired in 2011. These are short and sweet and under 150 words each.
All My Children: In September, All My Children aired its last episode. Erica ended the show as a single woman after Jack said he had enough of their relationship. Tad and Kendall got their late loves Dixie and Zach back from the dead. Madison got the man of her dreams with Scott, but miscarried her child with Ryan. Greenlee and Ryan remarried, though she still dreamed of Leo. Amanda battled cancer with Jake by her side. Cara became pregnant, after she slept with David. Angie regained her eyesight, but lost her baby with Jesse at birth. He swapped kids, but eventually it was all sorted out and Maya joined their family. Randi became pregnant and Brot and Natalia became engaged. Marissa and Bianca became a family and JR lost his mind as a shot rang out in the show’s closing seconds.
The Bold & the Beautiful: Thomas lied about sleeping with Brooke, because of Stephanie’s interference. All of this made him lose his fashion line Taboo. He got shares of Forrester stock in the process. Taylor lost Ridge again, once the news came out and he returned to Brooke. It looks like Thorne may be developing feelings for Taylor and vice versa. Steffy fell for Liam after he saved her life. Bill and Steffy teamed up to get Liam to end his engagement to Hope. They succeeded and Liam married Steffy. The only problem is Bill still wants Steffy, his daughter-in-law, and Bill’s still married to Katie. Liam though still loves Hope, but now Thomas is wooing her. Pam stole designs from Forrester for Jackie M. New intern and former foster child Beverly nearly lost her position as she was blamed initially. Rick came back to Los Angeles.
Days of Our Lives: John, Marlena, Austin, Carrie, Quinn and Jack came home to Salem, while Carly, Chloe, Nathan, Stephanie, Philip, Vivian, Dario and Taylor all left town. Sami and EJ had sex, though they both recommitted to their spouses Rafe and Nicole. Justin and Adrienne remarried. Victor and Maggie wed and Maggie’s family grew as she found out that Daniel was her son. This made Melanie her granddaughter. Jennifer was torn between Jack and Daniel. Chad broke up with Abby to date Melanie. Brady fell for newcomer Madison. John spent time in prison, as people believed he stole pension funds. He was freed after Hope and Bo got Stefano’s help, as he owed Alice a favor. Marlena lent an ear to her grandson Will. A town square was dedicated in honor of Tom and Alice Horton and suddenly people are visiting it nearly every episode.
General Hospital: In Port Charles, Sam and Jason wed, as did Lulu and Dante. Brenda broke Sonny’s heart by leaving town with her child. Jax faked his death, while Abby, Jake, Lisa and Siobhan really died as organ donations or bodies were shown on camera. Carly started to move on with Shawn. Kristina departed for college, while Lucky went back to Ireland. Luke lost his sobriety and became estranged from his family. Skye made a visit to get some more cash. Ethan’s obsessed with a woman in white. Spinelli was shot, got stuck in the past emotionally, remembered his life, but not his skills. Diane became a successful author and Alexis was back as Sonny’s attorney, while Kate mended Sonny. Olivia and Steve started to date. Robin’s health has taken a turn for the worse, and she’s keeping it a secret from Patrick.
One Life to Live: In Llanview, Natalie went down the altar twice, but didn’t get married. Joey and Aubrey vows didn’t last, while the Tina and Cord union hopefully does. Brody lost not one, but two children, and went into treatment. John was thrilled that Liam is his son, while Ford is glad Ryder is his. Joey and Kelly left town reunited. Dorian became a Senator, while her husband David continued with his acting career. Comfort sex lead to parenthood for Matthew and Destiny. Viki lost Charlie to Echo, but it ended due to Echo’s lies. Jack bullied Shane, and killed Stacy, whose heart was given to Clint. Clint and Viki reunited, and he made peace with Rex being his son. Victor Lord Jr. had been living as Todd Manning. Victor was killed causing heartbreak for the entire Manning clan. Nate did an adult film, which devastated Dani.
The Young & The Restless: Nikki spent much of her year in rehab instead of Genoa City. She married Deacon, because she was being blackmailed about Diane’s death. We have yet to be told who murdered her. Jana died of natural causes. Cane faked his death, as his identical twin brother Caleb was murdered. This caused him to almost lose Lily for good, but she forgave him again. After losing custody of Lucy, Victoria and Billy divorced and remarried. Jill married Colin, but it wasn’t legal. Everyone found out Devon is Tucker’s son and Kay’s grandson. Sofia married and divorced Malcolm, had a child with Neil and married him too. Delia fought cancer, and Chloe became closer to Kevin and they became engaged, though he left town before the wedding. Ashley and Tucker also were married. It seems like 2011 was the year for weddings on Y&R.
These are the highlights as I remember them for 2011.
This blog is mainly about soaps, though it will sometimes veer into other topics. The main purpose is to provide a space for when board discussion isn't enough as sometimes my thoughts and feelings take on a life of their own. Even if some of the shows I enjoy have been cancelled, I will continue to post about them. They may take away the shows, but they can't destroy the love.
