GH: Lucky Friday General Hospital Marathon

On Friday, November 25, 2011, SoapNet aired a General Hospital marathon focusing on the character of Lucky Spencer as played by Jonathan Jackson. The marathon featured four episodes from the 1990s and one from earlier in 2011.

November 1, 1993

This episode focused on Lucky, Luke (Tony Geary) and Laura (Genie Francis) escaping from the Triple L Diner. Lucky had gone on home, but then their Ford truck had been blown up, so Laura left an answering machine message directing Lucky to go on the road. At this time, Lucky was 10 years old, and finally Luke and Laura’s past with Frank Smith had caught up with them. Elsewhere in Port Charles, Jagger (Antonio Sabato Jr.) and Karen (Cari Shayne) met with Police Commissioner Sean (John Reilly), and Karen admitted to what happened at Sonny’s club. She had become an underage stripper, and there was also fight fixing. Karen also mentioned how she had been sexually abused. There was also a short bit with Lucy (Lynn Herring) and Scott (Kin Shriner). She was pregnant with Dominique’s and Scott’s child (who later was named Serena) and how she would keep Scott away from the baby if he let Katherine Bell into his life.

This episode had Laura telling Lucky about how Nikolas (Tyler Christopher, though back then he went by the name Tyler Baker) was conceived, and how she was held captive years earlier thinking that Luke was dead. Nik had saved Lulu’s life as he was a match, and now was part of their lives in Port Charles. There were scenes with Nik and baby Lulu at General Hospital. Lucky was beyond angry, while Luke tried to keep the peace. The main thrust of this episode though was not this story, but the death of Dr. Steve Hardy (John Bernadino) as he had passed away in real life. His wife Audrey (Rachel Ames) was heartbroken and uncertain how she will live without Steve. Kevin (Jon Lindstrom) as a psychiatrist comforted her and his love Lucy appreciated how helpful he was to Audrey. Robin (Kimberly McCullough) comforted Amy (Shell Kepler) and later ran into Jason (Steve Burton) at the bridge. He wanted to go to the memorial service for Robin’s sake. Carly (Sarah Brown) was happy that she got into the nursing program at GH, but due to Steve’s death no one seemed to care. Jason talked to her about it, but she was wrong and Tony (Brad Maule) gave her a gift. It was a pink bear with congratulations on it that was from Bobbie and him. This was when Carly started to get her hooks into Tony, but they weren’t sleeping together yet.

November 11, 1998

Lucky has gone missing, but Luke took him to a cabin. Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) is upset, as it has been twelve hours, since she heard from him. Lucky calls her, and she feels relief. Lucky and Luke are estranged over what happened all those years ago at the Campus Disco (when Luke raped Laura). Felicia (Kristina Wagner) is on a stakeout in the seedy part of town and Mac (John J. York) comes to see her and is worried for her safety. At the same hotel that Felicia is at, Alan (Stuart Damon) is dealing with his drug addiction and Tony is trying to help him get into rehab. She sees the two men and explains to them that they need to keep her identity a secret. Stefan (Stephen Nichols) and Jerry Jacks (Julian Stone) are talking about how they want to frame Luke. Nik wants Stefan to help him find Lucky, but Stefan won’t interfere as he promised Laura he would not get involved in her marriage.

April 15, 1999

Jax (Ingo Rademacher) and Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) are stranded in a cave and now there is a dust storm making it impossible for anyone to find them. V (Lisa Cerasoli) and Justin (Wally Kurth) are fighting with Jerry over how to find Jax and Alexis. Bobbie (Jaclyn Zeman) is on the phone Jerry, while Tammy (Patricia Healy) is behind the counter at Kelly’s. Sonny and Mike talk at the restaurant. Carly is at the Q Mansion with Jason and they are talking about Hannah (Lisa Vultaggio). Carly is concerned that Hannah is using him. Hannah is an employee at Luke’s, but also FBI and wants to get to Sonny. AJ comes in and stops their conversation, so Carly fakes being angry with Jason. Nik and Lucky are playing with Lulu, while Laura looks on with a smile. Lucky gave Laura a picture that Liz drew of flowers. Felicia goes to Luke to say goodbye to him. Then Felicia and Mac say goodbye as she is going to Texas with Maxie and Georgie. At Luke’s, Bobbie and Carly chat and it doesn’t go well. Bobbie leaves, and Carly goes outside. Carly and Hannah get into a slapping fight. Lucky, Elizabeth, Nik and Emily (Amber Tamblyn) have a meal together as Kelly’s is closed for the night. Elizabeth makes salad, and they bring food from other places for the main dishes. Liz is such a bad cook that they are concerned that everything would be inedible. They talk about Liz and Lucky’s plan to go live in New York City on Horatio Street. Emily does a toast using brownies Liz has made. They all vow to be friends forever.

March 21, 2011

This episode focuses on Lucky and Elizabeth dealing with Jake being hit by a car. Also Carly (Laura Wright), Jax and Michael (Chad Duell) find out that baby Jocelyn has cancer. Luke and Tracy (Jane Elliot) talk about how hard it was for Laura and him to deal with thinking that Lucky was dead. Robin and Patrick (Jason Thompson) are in the operating room as Jason looks on at his son’s surgery. Lisa watches Nik and Lucky interact. Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) is investigating who hit Jake. Lulu is also there as are Steve, Sam and Siobhan. Jake dies while having surgery, though nothing could have saved him, as his injuries were too severe. Carly tells Jason that Jake could save Jocelyn, and Lucky and Elizabeth were asked if they were willing to donate Jake’s organs to other children.

That’s my summary of the Lucky Friday marathon. Most of these episodes featured turning points in Lucky’s life, but didn't solely focus on his character. The 1999 episode was more about other stories than Lucky’s, but gave a good glimpse into the friendship among Lucky, Liz, Emily & Nikolas.
