AMC & OLTL: Some Good News Some Bad News

Today more information on Prospect Park came out to us. Here are my thoughts on it.

The good news, we now have 13 people signed up to be on One Life to Live. Thanks for ABC: Soaps In Depth for that scoop. The latest names are Tuc Watkins (David), Josh Kelly (Cutter), Florencia Lozano (Tea), and Shenell Edmonds (Destiny). Previously Erika Slezak (Viki), Kassie DePaiva (Blair), Ted King (Tomas), Michael Easton (John), Melissa Archer (Natalie), Jerry verDorn (Clint), Sean Ringgold (Shaun), Andrew Trischitta (Jack) and Kelley Missal (Dani). Some thirty-minute soap operas over the years had casts between 15-20, so 13 is a nearly workable number.

The bad news is Prospect Park needs money, and lots of it to have both All My Children and One Life to Live online. The shows aren’t going to be produced for free and according to this article currently it costs $160,000 per episode. For more on this click here. http://allthingsd.com/20111103/can-one-life-to-live-get-new-life-on-the-web-heres-the-pitch/ What they write about in regards to how many people watch online already is very interesting.

So while I am thrilled that One Life to Live has nearly enough people to have a cast without many recast characters, I worry that we won’t get either program due to money. I hope this can be worked out, and soon. I thought the only thing we had to worry about were the unions which is a big deal, but this is even scarier. Without the unions agreeing, a show cannot be made, but without money on the table, we still won’t get anything to watch.

Hoping for the best, but fearing this was all for naught. I want to be hopeful that we will get more All My Children (please get more people cast as their signed up people can be counted on less than one hand the only 100% confirmed people are Lindsay Hartley who plays Cara, Darnell Williams who plays Jesse, and Cameron Mathison who plays Ryan) and One Life to Live, but this news has me a bit pessimistic. Without a way to pay to get a show made, nothing will be taped for us to see. I’m thankful for the years we had, but hoping for a few more to enjoy.
