Y&R: Sharon's Finally Free

This past week Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) was finally cleared of the murder of Skye Newman (Laura Stone). Skye had faked her death with the help of her father-in-law, Victor Newman (Eric Braeden), framing his son Adam (Matt Muhney). Sharon cornered Skye in Hawaii, and Skye slipped and fell into a volcano.

What happened next falls into an only in daytime situation. Sharon was tried and convinced in Genoa City for Skye’s death though it happened in Hawaii. With Adam’s support, she broke out of jail after being found guilty in Skye’s murder. A woman robbed her, and then everyone believed Sharon was dead. Her son Noah mourned, as did the rest of the family as they thought she was gone for good.

Sharon had not been in the car accident, and made her way to a farm. She hid in the barn and later was taken in by a kind veterinarian named Sam Gibson (Sean Patrick Flannery). Eventually Sam and Sharon became romantically involved. They bonded over life, Piper the kid who lived nearby and her lamb. Piper’s father figured out that Sherri was really fugitive Sharon Newman and she was extradited to Genoa City.

Finding out that Sharon moved on as Sherri in New Mexico, upset Adam and he vowed revenge. In jail, she agreed to marry him. They went through the whole ceremony and Adam stopped it at the last minute telling her that they cannot be wed. Sharon was depressed and horrified. Adam also had proof that cleared Sharon, but he destroyed it by throwing it in the river before the “wedding” that never was.

Victor tried to make up for what happened to Sharon and brought in a high-powered attorney named Avery Bailey Clark (Jessica Collins) to help her. She was able to maneuver things so Sharon would be free. Thankfully the camera card was found, and while the video was poor, the audio proved Sharon was not guilty. The card was in the evidence box from the Diane Jenkins’ murder and Ronan and Phyllis found it. They rushed to the courthouse with this new information.

Sharon was freed, but in this situation another victim was claimed Heather (Eden Riegel). Heather had a bit too much to drink and Adam took advantage of the situation to get a picture of them together. As Heather was working in the DA’s office this was a major conflict of interest. What was worse is that the person who took the pictures was her half-brother Ricky (Peter Porte) that was working to help Avery free Sharon. Heather left town and joined her mother in New York City in shame as her legal career was in shambles.

Now that Sharon is free, the question remains whom will she turn to next? Her relationship with Sam became platonic again once she returned to Genoa City. Adam seems to hate her due to Sam, and her former husband Nick has his hands full with Phyllis and Avery. Hopefully Sharon will be able to bond with her daughter Faith and her son Noah who lost a lot of time with their mom.
