GH: Robin's Funeral

General Hospital's Robin Scorpio Drake (Kimberly McCullough) died in an explosion in a hospital lab. As everyone believes, she is dead a funeral was held. It lasted three episodes (March 15, 16 & 19, 2012.)

While a lot of people in church spoke about her death, many did not go to the funeral. This was disappointing, but I'll summarize those scenes before I get into the main event.

Robert (Tristan Rogers) was despondent over his daughter's death. He thought about suicide so Luke (Tony Geary) gave him a reason to live: Ethan (Nathan Parsons). Luke gave Robert the impression that Ethan was a Scorpio, so he left town to run after the young man. Holly (Emma Samms) joined Robert in his quest to find Ethan. It was ambiguous, as Holly told Helena that Ethan was really Robert's, but later he told Ethan and Luke, he was really a Spencer. Either way, it was frustrating that Robert was not at his daughter's funeral. He did leave a letter to be read during the ceremony, by Luke, but it was not enough. Seeing old clips of Robert and Robin was sweet, but again disappointing. The love of Robert's life was Robin, and considering they brought Tristan Rogers on I don't get the logic of them handling it this particular way.

The Quartermaines also did not go to the service. Edward (John Ingle) had a heart complaint, while Monica (Leslie Charleson) and Tracy (Jane Elliot) were arguing. Tracy stayed back to take care of Edward, while Monica went to the hospital. By being at work, she was honoring Robin's time as a doctor. Epiphany (Sonya Eddy) also was working at GH. Jason (Steve Burton) didn't go to the service as his wife Sam (Kelly Monaco) didn't inform him of Robin's death. Carly (Laura Wright) broke into his hospital room, and told him the truth. When he found out that Sam had been lying to him, he became angry. He left the hospital to get to the service, but it had already ended.

While there were a few extras at the ceremony, there were very few characters at the funeral. Patrick (Jason Thompson), Mac (John J. York), Anna (Finola Hughes), Emma (Brooklyn Rae Silzer), Matt (Jason Cook), Luke, Alexis (Nancy Grahn), Molly (Hayley Pullos), Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) Sonny (Maurice Bernard), Kate (Kelly Sullivan), Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) and Maxie (Jen Lilley) were all there for at least part of the funeral.

Flashback clips and a video screen montage that played throughout these scenes were a highlight. In the montage, we saw shots of Robin growing up on screen, with her family members and friends. They even included a shot of Robin as a little girl with GH's most famous chief of staff Steve Hardy (played by the late John Bernadino who passed away over 15 years ago.) They showed clips from the HIV story, along with Anna and little Robin in the Asian quarter, and Mac giving a eulogy at Anna/Robert's memorial. In that scene, Mac still had an Australian accent.

Mac, Anna, Patrick, Sonny, Luke (reading Robert's letter) and Maxie all spoke at the service. After Sonny spoke he and Kate left, but Patrick didn't want Sonny to be at the church. Maxie had a breakdown and blamed herself for Robin's death. She talked about how her purse caused the explosion in the lab. In a red dress, she was carried out of there by Mac. At the hospital, Maxie said that she was a murderer as she killed Lisa. During her ranting, Maxie mentioned Patrick's affair with Lisa. Anna confronted him over it, and said that she couldn't deal with him causing her daughter so much pain. Thankfully that scene happened when Emma was out of the room, though she did see Maxie freak out in front of everyone. Elizabeth got Robin a brick at GH in her honor. Patrick made a paper airplane out of Emma's picture for her mom, and they flew it off the roof of General Hospital.

While I was disappointed by the funeral, I can't fault GH for giving Robin's service more than one episode. I hope we find out soon that Robin is still alive, as her death was faked for her safety, and that Patrick is just dreaming of Robin and not seeing her ghost.
