B&B: 25th Anniversary

Today, Monday, March 26, 2012, "The Bold & The Beautiful" aired its 25th anniversary episode, (its anniversary is the 23rd) due to a preemption.

Clips from early on in the series, where shown. We saw Stephanie (Susan Flannery) and Eric (John McCook) in front of a fire. He spoke about how with love the family will survive. The clip seemed to be during a Christmas season, from the 1980s. Pictures from the past were shown all around the living room, and in some cases those photos framed flashbacks. Please pardon the pun.

Rick (Jacob Young) gave a toast, than Eric did, then Stephanie. It was also nice to see Thorne (Windsor Harmon) and Felicia (Leslie Kay) though it would have been extremely annoying if Eric and Stephanie's children who live in LA did not attend. Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) and Stephanie remembered when Brooke kissed Stephanie on the cheek, and commented about how Stephanie loved her. This clip was shown on The Talk last Monday, but Stephanie admitted that yes that was true.

In younger folks land, at the top of the show Liam (Scott Clifton) and Hope (Kim Matula) are shown talking about the situation with the press, and we also see Steffy (Jacqueline MacInness Wood) look at the web coverage. Steffy calls the party, speaks with her parents Taylor and Ridge (Hunter Tylo and Ronn Moss) and then with Stephanie thanking her telling her to not give up her marriage, as she and Liam are just like Stephanie and Eric. That portion ended with a tag of just Stephanie's facial expression, which was very old school. Later, Steffy calls Liam and tells him that she is glad to have not given him an annulment.

Brooke invited Stephanie's sister Pam (Alley Mills) to the party. Due to their estrangement, Pam was worried she would be thrown out of the event. The sisters made up as Stephanie forgave Pam for stealing designs from the company. Dayzee (Kristolyn Lloyd) and Marcus (Texas Battle) were there, but while they were happy, there was no real focus on their recent engagement.

One of the other clips that was shown was Ridge and Brooke remembering their first meeting. Brooke was a waitress and Ridge confused her for Caroline. Since I missed the very early years, it was great to finally see that clip. The other clip of Ridge and Brooke was during their beach horseback wedding, which I watched when it originally aired.

Eric is sitting at the piano, with those in the mansion standing around him. He begins to play and sing "The Folks who live on the Hill" which has been performed by Peggy Lee, Diana Krall and Nina Simone among others. As a coda at the end of the song, he played a few bars of the B&B theme. Everyone claps as Stephanie & Eric hug. Stephanie winks at the audience. We then get a wide angle shot of cast, and then see the outside of LA in the hills.

I really enjoyed the silver anniversary episode of "The Bold & The Beautiful". It was well done, and honored the history of the show. The flashbacks focused on the original four (Stephanie, Eric, Ridge and Brooke), who have been part of the cast since its start. Obviously, it could have gone on over more than one episode, but for one day I felt it was good. There were a lot of callbacks to what soap operas used to do more often, which I appreciated and felt was appropriate for an anniversary. I hope everyone who is interested in watching this episode gets the chance to see it.

I absolutely loved the song that Eric Forester sang and played on the piano today, their 25th anniversary show. It was called "The Folks Who Live on the Hill". I was wondering if John McCook (Eric) really sang and played that himself. If so, I wonder if he has any music out in the world that can be purchased. It was so beautifully done. If he hasn't made a CD of his music, I really wish he would. I'm wondering how I can find out.
