On “The Young & the Restless”, a new quadrangle was formed once Colin’s soon to be ex-wife Genevieve came to Genoa City. She hooked up with Jack (Peter Bergman), while Colin has tried to get Jill (Jess Walton) to take him back.
Colin (Tristan Rogers) and Genevieve (Genie Francis) were married and had a life outside of Genoa City in Australia. Of course, most viewers who are familiar with ABC soaps think of them as Robert and Laura from General Hospital. Robert was best friends with Laura’s husband and they shared scenes over the years. On that program, Robert’s former wife Holly had a child with Laura’s former husband Luke, so perhaps that was a wink, wink. Genie Francis was contacted to join Y&R based on her comments on Oprah, but prior to that there was no reference to Cane having a living mother.
Colin and Genevieve had three children, twin boys Caleb and Ethan and a daughter Samantha. Ethan the audience knows as Cane. Caleb was killed in place of Cane, and Samantha was murdered many years ago. This tied into Cane leaving his family for good and eventually pretending to be Jill’s son Phillip. Colin went to prison for some of his evil doings based upon Cane’s testimony. No one outside of Cane knew that Colin was his father, and he “married” Jill. Since he had never divorced Genevieve obviously that marriage was invalid. Colin is trying to get Jill back, but has failed so far. Of course, finding out that Colin and Genevieve had sex again wouldn’t endear him to her. Kay is backing up Jill and wants him gone. Due to diplomatic immunity, everything Colin did that was illegal in the US was waived including his attempted kidnapping of Lily and Cane’s twins (Charlie and Matilda).
Genevieve came to Genoa City to get revenge on Colin, and became twisted just like him. She met Jack at Gloworm, they started flirting on the day the Newman stock had its initial public offering. They shared liquor and chatter. She didn’t share her identity with Jack, but knew who he was. Since their initial meeting, they have begun to date. They had sex after she slept with Colin. Before Genevieve and Jack slept together, she admitted that Colin was the only person she ever slept with, but afterwards she wished they had done it sooner. Obviously, I hope there is no pregnancy story as really I have no interest in a “who is the daddy” plot with Jack and Colin with Genevieve in the middle.
For this story in the future, a large factor is Genie Francis who may or may not be leaving though right now she is taping a television movie, and not working at Y&R. Hopefully we will find out her status and if this plot will continue, end or become a triangle. If the quadrangle continues, I wonder will Jack keep Genevieve interested in him or will she be torn and move back towards Colin even after she received divorce papers. Will Jill stay strong and stay away from Colin because he isn’t to be trusted. Would Y&R actually go there and have Jill and Jack be involved again as the last time they were paired other actors were in the roles. They had an affair during Jill’s first marriage to Jack’s father John. That was over 25 years ago, before I watched Y&R. A lot has happened since then including Jill being the mother to Jack’s half-brother Billy. I’m not sure how I would react to that, but it is a possibility the program could decide to go with as well, and I appreciate plots with long term daytime performers so I'd watch it with curiosity if not downright interest.
