OLTL: Friday's 1995 Rerun Episode

This Friday ABC Daytime aired older episodes with One Life to Live’s being from November 14, 1995. Since All My Children and General Hospital had episodes from the last 5 years, I have decided to only write about the OLTL broadcast.

The music used for the opening credits did not match what was originally used back then. It was strange, so I turned the sound off and hummed the old theme. I never was really into that opening and my favorite remains the “cheesy” 1980s one with the song. That brings back happy memories even if it is out of place in 2011.

The episode of One Life to Live featured Todd and Blair’s second wedding. This wedding unlike their first was not based on a lie. The first time, Blair lied to Todd that she was pregnant though she ended up pregnant and miscarried. The baby she was pregnant with at the time of this wedding grew up to be Starr Manning. The 1998 book Love, Honor & Cherish (The Greatest Wedding moments from All My Children, General Hospital, and One Life to Live) by Gary Warner has a section on this event.

Todd and Blair got married by Andrew. In attendance from Blair’s family were her mother Addie, Aunt Dorian, cousins Kelly and Cassie. The groom had his half-sister Viki, her son Joey, and his niece and nephew Sarah and C.J. They were the flower girl and ring bearer, who even as little kids snuck off to be part of the event. Blair donned a dress that had belonged to her family. Viki and Todd hadn’t known for very long they were siblings, but Viki was assuring Todd they did not have to be like their father. While they had family at the event, the reception was just for Todd and Blair. He brought her to the Palace. Musicians were there, a table was set and it was very romantic. At the appropriate moment, golden balloons fell from the ceiling. A photograph from this wedding is now part of a current story.

The other main story was Marty and Patrick in Ireland. This particular episode had the first time they made love on camera. They were presumed to be husband and wife and staying in the same room. Marty had a boyfriend back in Llanview named Dylan. Patrick talked about his life and his loss of Siobhan to the men of 21. He spoke Yeats to her, and we heard the poem Brown Penny. And no, Cole was not conceived during the episode, so he is not older than Starr. Sorry, I just had to say that.

Alex’s run for mayor was on in a few short scenes, though in the real world Election Day would have come and gone already. Nora, Bo and her sister Susannah were there snipping with Alex. We also had cameos by Asa and Nigel. Tina was at the party too, but we didn’t really see her. Also after leaving the wedding, Kelly and Joey argued, as Joey was frustrated that Kelly just wants to use him to lose her virginity. So Kelly was interested in him then too.

There were a lot of familiar faces in this episode. So even if the episode is over 15 years old, if someone tuned in they wouldn’t be completely confused. It was nice to see Nathan Fillion for example as Joey, and funny to see Hayden Panettiere (best known from Heroes as Claire) as Sarah as she didn’t seem happy as a little kid sitting around in a mantilla. While I wasn’t a fan of ABC daytime showing reruns on non-holidays if they had usually been ones that were more than 5 years old, I would have appreciated it a lot more. So I’m glad this particular episode was from 15 years ago.

Enjoyed watching this episode. I especially loved Blair's gown. Who made her gown and where can we see a photo of it?

Thanks for reading. According to the book, Susan Gammie found the gown which was antique at a used shop in SoHo. She used that with some fabric to make it work as most people at the time were shorter than Kassie (Blair).

A side view photo of the gown is on Katherine's OLTL blog here.
