GH: Michael and Abby

Recently on General Hospital, Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) admitted to his family that he was raped by another prisoner named Carter while he was in Pentonville. This story was months in the making as he finally spoke the truth. Going to prison, changed Michael as well as his family. As part of this story, he has developed feelings for a much older woman named Abby (Andrea Bogart).

Michael has been guarded, since he moved back to Port Charles. He was distant and felt like he did not fit in with his peers any longer. This began after he was shot in the head and woke up from his coma. Going to prison just exacerbated that issue.

The only person Michael seemed to bond with was an acquaintance of Sam’s named Abby who professionally went by the name Candy. Sam met her while she was undercover as a private investigator working in a strip club. Sam had asked Abby as a favor to meet with Michael in a hotel as he didn’t feel comfortable with women. While Abby and Michael kissed, they did not have sex. He freaked out and attacked though she was not hurt. Unlike other men, Michael wanted to know more about Abby instead of wanting to use her. They became friends who spent time at Kelly’s drinking coffee. Abby shared her dreams about becoming a paralegal. She was just working as a stripper to pay for school.

With the large age difference between Abby and Michael most people in Port Charles did not like their friendship. She’s about a decade older and has had a lot more life experience. Abby tried to stay away from Michael, and he attempted the same to no avail. They wanted to date regardless of what Michael’s mother Carly and sister Kristina said. Abby pushed him away one last time stating she was a whore. Considering Michael’s grandmother having that past, and his adoptive father being a mobster, really why would any of this matter to Michael.

What pushed Michael over the edge to tell the truth about his attack was Abby. Abby’s former boyfriend began using her as a punishing bag nearly raping her. Michael relived what Carter did to him, and rescued her. Jason came along before Michael killed Abby’s ex-boyfriend. Abby stayed at General Hospital for treatment. She’s been released and Michael put her up at the Metro Court. Carly finally supported Abby and Michael being friends once all of this was revealed.

When it comes to Abby and Michael my feelings are mixed. I can understand if someone believes they have chemistry and likes them, but he is still in high school. If Michael was out of high school and became involved with someone a decade older, I would have no issue. Abby isn’t a teacher or in the position of an adult role model like a coach or something that is taking advantage of an innocent teenager. As a viewer, I am relieved that Michael is above the age of consent as I have no interest in seeing Abby get into legal trouble. I just am trying to imagine Michael taking Abby to prom and thinking how awkward. Then again Michael may not want to go to prom as due to what he has gone through he is somewhat anti-social. I think that is part of why his sister Kristina has such issues. She can’t imagine dating someone that much older even if she had a crush on Ethan. Michael and Kristina go to school together, and she would have to deal with the scorn from their classmates too. So while, I am not against the pairing, I am not for it at least not yet. I do see some chemistry, but I have to forget that he is in high school. So come on GH let Michael get a GED and get out into the work force, preferably not in the mob. Maybe he can follow in the footsteps Jason was taking before his head injury and become a doctor like his late grandfather Alan.
