Days: EJ and Nicole Marry Again

On Days of Our Lives, EJ DiMera remarried his former wife Nicole. They were wed in front of family, and well family as neither really has friends. Here are my thoughts on this latest development and it includes spoilers.

The thing with EJ and Nicole is that their marriage is not one of love, but convenience. EJ decided to marry her for the sake of his children Johnny and Sydney. Nicole gave up Brady whom she really loved to be with the kids. Now it looks like Nicole has begun to develop romantic feelings for EJ yet again. Of course, that was stupid on her part, as this is EJ and they have a rocky relationship. Nicole lied to EJ for months that she was Sydney’s mother, and then kidnapped her. While EJ gets along with her now, it is doubtful he will be able to fully forgive her for those actions.

After EJ and Nicole got engaged again, EJ met a woman at the pier. He was instantly smitten. What he didn’t know at the time was that it was Nicole’s sister Taylor that he had just met. Taylor had no idea what EJ looked like and was taken with him too. Taylor and EJ seemed to be “love at first sight” and they wanted to see each other again. They had a few near misses, but they only were introduced during the wedding ceremony. Taylor got to the front of the church as the maid of honor, turned and saw EJ. There was a shock on both of their parts.

With Days recasting the part of Taylor, I wonder if this will change the direction of the story. These scenes and the others will have to be redone, to be used again once the cast member switch occurs or else it won’t make any sense. Even if Taylor wasn’t in the picture, I don’t think EJ and Nicole getting married was a good idea for either of them. While Nicole feels something for him, will she ever be able to trust him? I have no idea, if that is even possible, though with Nicole not being person who trusts easily this may be par for the course for her.

At this point, I am not rooting for EJ and Nicole to have a successful marriage, but I am not rooting for EJ and Taylor either. I just don’t buy the mythical they looked into each other’s eyes and were in love kind of thing. She was cold, and he gave her a scarf. Was that supposed to be chivalrous? At least we didn’t have a scene where he took off his coat jacket so she wouldn’t step in the mud. Then again if Days had gone that far, I would have been bemused.

I’m not sure who I want EJ to be with next, and I feel the same way about Nicole. It is strange to watch Days and not be able to guess the super couple, but with things the way they are now, it is a lot harder. Even if I may prefer an alternate pairing, it is nice to know the direction the show is going with their couples. Perhaps there will be stronger indications with the writing staff changes.

EJ and Nicole’s wedding was nice and low key. While they had interruptions, first due to EJ being surprised by Taylor and then Taylor becoming faint, at least the wedding happened.

Having the characters on screen acknowledge that weddings in Salem get interrupted quite often made me chuckle. As did seeing Johnny and Theo, being called the smartest people there. It was also nice to see Lexie, EJ and Chad all get along and act like siblings. Plus it was amusing having Lexie put on tie duty. So all in all, while I am not enthusiastic about Nicole and EJ getting married again, at least the episodes about it provided some entertainment.
