OLTL: Daddy Dilemma

Jessica and Natalie have given birth to their sons back on 1/11/11. The boys were Liam Asa McBain and Ryder Asa Lovett; their paternities are still in question. In this entry, I discuss the pros and cons for each of the various fathers in this One Life to Live story. This entry is without spoilers.

Liam – Potential Daddies John or Brody

Pros for John

1. John loves Natalie, and they are engaged. In the last year, Marty miscarried his child and he seems ready to be a parent. He believes he’s Liam’s dad and this should be a happy time for John and Natalie as a couple.


2. Since Michael left town, he has no other family in Llanview. Being Liam’s dad ties him to the Buchanan and Lord families.

Cons for John

1. If John is the father, there is less story. Natalie having a one-night stand while estranged from John while upsetting may not be enough for them to end the relationship.
2. If someone does not like John and Natalie this bonds them for life.

Pros for Brody

1. Brody being the father equals conflict, which means story. Brody hasn’t had much to do and this would be a huge deal.


2. If he is the father of this child or Ryder he has a permanent link to the Buchanan and Lord families.

Cons for Brody

1. Brody slept with Natalie the night that Jessica found him after she regained her memories. Having a child to remind them of that awful time, causes major relationship problems.


2. Natalie and Jessica have a complex relationship to say the least. Will Jessica be able to forgive her sister for sleeping with her boyfriend and lying about it? Will she be able to forgive Brody?

Ryder – Potential Daddies: Brody or Bobby Ford
Pros for Brody

1. Brody and Jessica are in love and in a committed relationship. He loves her daughter Bree too and is willing to be her stepfather. This makes him a part of the Buchanan and Lord families.


2. Jessica deserves a win as does Brody. Brody loved Shane as his son, but lost him. Jessica has lost two children: Megan and Chloe. She was living as her alter Tess when Bree was conceived, so this is the first pregnancy she has had where the child has lived and Jessica is “mom”. Making Ford the father ruins the life she was finally able to create after Nash died.

Cons for Brody

1. If Brody is the dad, unless he is also the father of Liam, where is the conflict?


2. Brody and Jessica are linked forever and if one doesn't like that pairing, they may be together for awhile.

Pros for Bobby Ford

1. This gives him a permanent link to the Buchanan and Lord families.


2. This gives a whole lot of conflict for not just Bobby, Brody and Jessica, but their relatives.

Cons for Bobby Ford

1. Due to the circumstances in which Bobby and Jessica had sex, she believed she was a 17 and was mentally not there, this makes people disgusted with him. This child is a reminder to those viewers.


2. He doesn’t want to be a Dad, and there are all the people who loathe what he did to content with as family members.

In conclusion, it will be interesting to see who the fathers are to these boys. This story can play out for the next few years, but hopefully the audience will know the blood lines of each of the boys soon.
