Days: Justin and Adrienne Reunited

On Thursday’s American episode of Days of Our Lives, Justin (Wally Kurth) and Adrienne (Judi Evans) reunited on camera. While my first reaction was “it is about time, my next was why they broken up in the first place?” In this entry I go into my thoughts on Days’ treatment of this 1980s era couple.

In the last few years, Adrienne and Justin have returned to Salem to check in with their families. Adrienne was home for a time, after it was revealed her brother Steve had not died. Justin came back while Adrienne was living overseas and they were fighting. Their troubles mainly occurred off camera, so what was the point in breaking them up at all. Did Justin and Adrienne really need to be divorced for him to develop feelings for Hope? No, so really it was a waste of a divorce.

Once Hope went to prison for her nighttime actions, Justin was left without a story. Adrienne was there for a struggling Stephanie, and to be neighbors with Daniel and Chloe, but that was about it. We seldom even saw her at the bar, she owns and at one point there was discussion that she sold it.

We finally saw Justin again being Sami’s lawyer, which was kind of funny considering her grandmother Caroline’s hate for anything Kiriakis. The feuding between Sami and EJ spurred him on to see Adrienne at her bar. He wanted to thank her for how agreeable she was during custody issues. Are we supposed to believe they are grown or still kids? That is where I am uncertain.

So Justin and Adrienne, bonded, kissed and then had sex on the pool table as happy hour took a brand new meaning. While Days could have completely ignored their relationship and left the status quo I appreciated that perhaps now Justin and Adrienne were reunited. Whether or not that means the actors will continue to get airtime (limited as it is), is another question entirely. That is something we shall see about in the coming weeks.

As someone who watched back in the 80s, it is one of those proverbial double edged swords. While I like to see the actors, and don’t begrudge them any money, this situation is extremely frustrating as they barely have any story. So is a little bit better than nothing at all, as truly due to how little focus they get I see them as guest stars more than regular players. I hope this reunion sticks between Justin and Adrienne and if the characters are written out, at least this should mean that they are together and happy off camera.
