B&B: Liam proposes to Hope

I’m not a regular viewer of “The Bold and the Beautiful”, but I happened to be home today and caught the show that aired on Monday, August 22. This is based on near first impressions as I have barely seen Liam (Scott Clifton) and Hope (Kimberly Matula) interact on camera.

The show began with Liam proposing to Hope at her fashion show called “Hope for the Future”. We saw him on bended knee as he asked “will you marry me?” Instead of saying yes she left.

Since this was at a public event, this went viral. People wondered if they would become engaged. Brooke was optimistic that they would be together. Taylor was skeptical, and considering their pasts it is understandable. Will Liam turn into the “next” Ridge with Hope and Steffy being the new Brooke and Taylor? I can completely understand why B&B would go there.

They showed Liam proposing to her with signs, earlier in the fashion show, which freakishly reminded me of the 1989 movie “Say Anything”. I started thinking of Lloyd Dobler (John Cusack) and his radio due to the way Liam held signs in his hands. He had them above his head. Each sign had one word “Will” “You” “Marry” and “Me”. Of course, I wondered if the characters would even know this movie. If Scott Clifton was still on GH as Dillon, who was a film student, I would have seen it has an homage, but here I had no idea if there was any significance.

On the roof, Liam and Hope talked about his proposal. She is happy with him, but that was too public. There was a musical flashback montage that used a song about becoming engaged. Hope said yes when Liam took out the ring again. Due to other comments made in the episode, it may not be smooth sailing for the newly engaged couple. Their families have major issues, which is never a good thing. They have people who also would prefer they not get married (namely Steffy and Oliver.)

At the end of the episode, Steffy was heartbroken to see Hope agree to marry Liam. Steffy developed feelings for Liam due to him saving her life. Oliver also vowed that he would get Hope back though he lost her by accidentally sleeping with her mother Brooke, which would be difficult for anyone to forgive. Dayzee and Marcus also became officially a couple after he impressed Eric in how he handled the situation at the fashion show.

The question remains will Hope and Liam make it to the altar, or will something or someone stop it from happening. While it looks like Hope’s family is supportive there is no way that Steffy and Oliver will remain silent.
