On Friday, August 26 and Monday, August 29, General Hospital featured dreams about Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) and alternate realities based on his life. We saw how Carly (Laura Wright), Monica (Leslie Charleson), Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) and Sam (Kelly Monaco) thought about Jason during his brain surgery.
In Carly’s dream, she and Jason are together, but Michael is still Sonny’s kid. Michael and Carly are at odds, as he believes that Carly destroyed both AJ and Sonny with Jason becoming her next victim. Michael runs out and gets into a car accident. Jason tells Carly that he has to let her go too. She gets upset and says he’s the only one she has left. He tells her that if she doesn’t give him up that she will also die like the others.
In Monica’s fantasy, we saw Jason as a plastic surgeon. AJ was still dead, but Jason was never injured in a car accident. Jason had just been appointed chief of staff at General Hospital. He was with Monica, Alan (who wasn’t dead), Tracy and Edward. Monica realized that Jason was a drug addict due to living up to his familial pressure. That evening after a fight, he hopped into a car, while high and got into an accident. At the end, we see Monica holding a picture of Alan. She hopes that her late husband is watching over them. Talking with Edward at the hospital, Monica admitted she wished things had been different, but after that dream she wondered if she should be careful what she wishes.
In Elizabeth’s fantasy, she’s an artist and he works as an architect. They have a very open relationship with no strings attached. Elizabeth though wants things to be different and stops taking her birth control pills. Jason shows her why he likes the way things are, but falls and becomes confined to a wheelchair. This dream ends with Elizabeth realizing that they had different goals in life.
In Sam’s dream, they are in the islands and are treasure hunters. Sam and Jason are committed to one another and happy. They are successful in their life together though someone tries to rob her. Jason rescues her before anything goes seriously wrong. Sam then happily surprises Jason with the good news that she is pregnant with his child. This fantasy is the closest to Jason’s reality.
As the surgery and episode ends it is left open if the procedure has changed Jason. We see a flashback montage of Jason’s life going backwards from present day to the 90s car crash. Robin assembles Jason’s family and friends before Patrick gives his prognosis and the show faded to black.
