GH: Nathan and Maxie Wed

This past week "General Hospital" had the wedding between Maxie (Kirsten Storms) and Nathan (Ryan Paevey). The event, which should have taken place on New Year's Eve, could happen due to the suspicious death of his former wife Claudette (Bree Williamson). With nearly everyone in place Nathan decided to surprise Maxie, but it nearly backfired. Below are my thoughts about this wedding.

The wedding and reception took place over the three episodes of GH that aired the week of January 16, 2017. Nina (Michelle Stafford) was in on the plan, and was using her position as Maxie's boss to find out the soon-to-be bride's preferences. Dillion (Robert Palmer Watkins) had to babysit her, but wasn't successful. Having to work on a bridal issue though was really difficult for Maxie, and she bolted from the Crimson office. At the airport, she ran into Spinelli (now Blake Berris as Bradford Anderson wasn't available to tape these episode due to a prime time gig). Spinelli convinced Maxie to go back to Port Charles with him, after lying that Georgie was with Ellie out of town at Disney World.  Nathan and his best man Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) felt relief that Maxie hadn't left town. Maxie was thrilled when she found out it was actually her wedding day. Nina and her husband Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) and Dante and Lulu got along for the day for the sake of the bride and groom.

Robin (Kimberly McCullough) and Lulu (Emme Rylan) were waiting for Maxie to help her with the wedding. Emma (Brooklyn Rae Silzer) was at the event with her mom. The ceremony almost didn't happen because Lucy was stuck in Corinth and couldn't officiate. Robin mentioned how Spinelli could do the ceremony though the fact that Griffin, a priest, was also in attendance wasn't a factor. Spinelli didn't offer, due to the awkwardness of the situation. Maxie and Nathan didn't have a problem with it, so her former fiance and father of her child proceeded in marrying them as the officiant.

We also got to see Felicia (Kristina Wagner) and Mac (John J. York) be there for Maxie's big day. If they had been missing, I'd been livid. Speaking of livid, Obrecht (Kathleen Gatti) was as she nearly missing the ceremony. She was working at the hospital, and didn't get to the event until the bride and groom were at the altar. Obrecht calmed down once she found out everyone was contacted in that matter and Maxie called her mother-in-law in German. The wedding then continued with no other interruptions. Part of the ceremony wasn't shown as there was a montage of past scenes between Naxie including their first meeting.

The reception had Maxie and Nathan eating cake, and the traditional bridal toss. Maxie stuffed cake in Nathan's mouth, and Obrecht was tricked into looking away so Emma got the bridal bouquet. Maxie and Mac shared a dance, and she spoke about how much she loves him whether he is just Mac, Dad, or Uncle Mac. That was rather sweet, and fit the family history. Lulu told an upset Charlotte that she was her biological mother and Anna remembered meeting Valentin before. Jordan had to leave early for work, and Sam and Jason came and went due to other issues. There also was dancing at the reception which I liked as many times soaps skip that.

In real life, both Kimberly McCullough and Emme Rylan are pregnant, though neither character is having a baby though it was a bit noticeable. Thankfully women in weddings sometimes carry bouquets of flowers when walking down the aisle. I also liked seeing Georgie though the girl was recast with an older child as having Maxie's daughter at the wedding was a must. I'm glad that Nathan and Maxie finally are wed. It was good to see her family interacting and some happiness in Port Charles.
