Days: Philip Left Town Again

On "Days of Our Lives", Philip Kirakis left Salem yet again on Tuesday, December 29. Below are my thoughts about the character's departure.

It seems like a long time ago that it was announced that John-Paul Lavoisier was out as Philip. One of the perils of the show being taped so far in advance. The character's departure was tied into the general unhappiness he felt in Salem. Philip realized he still loved Chloe (Nadia Bjorlin), but she only saw him as a friend. After Deimos (Vincent Irizarry) kidnapped him and gave him a truth serum, he became even more frustrated as Victor (John Aniston) took his brother's side. Later, we found out that Victor knew Philip was telling the truth, but kept his mouth shut. Philip then said goodbye to his mother Kate (Lauren Koslow) and off he went.

This wasn't a huge exit, but the character never had that much to do in this incarnation. In many ways, it felt like Days has chosen Brady as the chosen heir of that generation, and no one else was needed. It could have been fun to see actual family squabbles, but they ended before they became truly interesting. Hopefully the character can return again some day even if the role will probably be played by another actor.
