Y&R: Neil's the Dad so Malcolm Bolted

On The Young & the Restless, Sofia (Julia Pace Mitchell) had her son Moses, named after her father. Instead of the boy being the child of her husband Malcolm (Darius McCrary), he is the child of Malcolm’s older brother Neil (Kristoff St. John). Finding out that Neil was biological parent was enough reason for Malcolm to depart Genoa City with divorce papers in hand.

Neil and Sofia were first adversarial, but eventually became friends. They had to work together, and she had only come to town due to her serious relationship with Malcolm. Things got rough between Malcolm and Sofia as she helped Cane and then he was assumed dead. Cane had been lying to Lily (Malcolm’s biological child that was raised by Neil); this put her on the outs. Malcolm had pulled away from Sofia and they were on a break when she slept with Neil. Sofia and Neil awkwardly had sex, but it seems like over this time Sofia has developed actual feelings for him. Sofia discovered she was pregnant after she and Malcolm got married, but originally kept quiet about the paternity issue. Eventually she had to tell the truth due to Rh factor issues. Sofia being Rh negative may have injured herself or the fetus if the child was Rh positive. (Neil was Rh positive and Malcolm Rh negative, but Moses was Rh negative so ultimately there was no problem.)

Neil is taking the responsibility of being Moses’s father seriously. He’s loved children who weren’t his biologically in the past like Lily and Devon. This situation brought up the bad blood that Malcolm and Neil had because of Lily. (When Y&R even mentions this plot, my blood boils as I hated it and still do as Malcolm took advantage of Dru who was sick/drugged, slept with her and got her pregnant. What kind of brother does that?) Malcolm felt that perhaps Neil slept with Sofia as revenge for what happened with Dru all those years ago. Perhaps it was “revenge” in a so-called karmic sense that he isn’t Moses’s father, but it wasn’t about hurting Malcolm.

With Malcolm out of the picture, it is uncertain what kind of relationship that Sofia and Neil will have. Regardless of what happens between them emotionally they share the responsibilities of a child.
