Thoughts about "The Doctors" - June 1974

Another month's worth of episodes of "The Doctors" has aired on RetroTV. Below are my thoughts on what has aired for the month of June 1974.

Toni was admitted to the hospital as her health continued to get worse. She wanted to stay pregnant as long as possible for the sake of her baby. Billy came to visit her, with Toni had a nightmare about Steve taking the baby, and her waking up no longer pregnant, with Steve's face full of tears as the baby was dead. She almost went the entire month, but started to have convulsions. She had finally agreed to the c-section, after hearing both Matt's and Alan's opinions. Alan told her that Mike wouldn't want her to die and not be their for their child. Once Toni stabilized Steve performed the operation, and "took the baby". Michael Paul was in respiratory distress and Ann performed mouth to mouth on him. He had a low apgar score and was premature. After waking up, Toni called Matt "dad", which was a first, as usually she calls him Dr. Powers. Martha knew Toni was in trouble, and Nick provided comfort.

Steve thinking that Alan knew about Margo wanting to get pregnant mentioned her visit to his office. Margo and Alan's marriage continued to get worse, as Alan wished he had met a woman like Toni before meeting and marrying Margo. Margo was surprised and upset that Alan didn't mention being the godfather to Toni's baby.

Carolee and Steve told Erich about being adopted while having cocktails, and it was explained how his original Mommy died, but Steve was his Daddy and there was a divorce. He seemed calm about it initially, as Billy told him that he was adopted too. Later Erich became upset, and ran away, after getting in an argument with Carolee. Off camera, Stephanie had taken giraffe without asking, and Erich hit her. Carolee told him that he cannot hit his sister, and felt that Carolee loved Stephanie more than him.

Lauri went on partial duty in Carolee's office reorganizing her file cabinets. She did a great job, and Carolee was disappointed when Lauri went back to nursing full time. Matt checked in with Lauri in regards to her heart surgery. She was improving, and it looks like she'll be able to sing again. Lauri decided to keep this news from Hank, as she wants to be his wife and a nurse, and not a professional singer.

Luke quit from being Penny's attorney after having enough stress from Althea this was after Penny's misbehavior. Penny ran away to Greenville as her grandma was out of the country. She wouldn't return unless Nick came and got her. The neighbor lady was the old woman from the Tweety and Sylvester cartoons come to life, except her bird was named Barnaby. Nick got so frustrated with Althea that he told Althea he was done helping her and Penny. He and Ann planned going to Mexico on their combined wedding and honeymoon. Ann got an offer to get an award in Africa, but she declined it as she doesn't want to revisit her failed marriage. Toni's health took a priority so Ann and Nick couldn't leave. (Something happened during a missing episode, where Althea was injured again. Hopefully more will be explained in the July episodes.)

Those were the highlights of June 1974. There were three missing episodes (June 11, 25, and 27.) Unfortunately, Maggie didn't have much to do this month and considering Toni's situation this was surprising. I was expecting to see her spend more time supporting Toni though she was at the hospital during the c-section.
