Early September 2016 brought us the remarriage of Sam (Kelly Monaco) and Jason (Billy Miller) on "General Hospital". The festivities began on September 2 and ended on September 7, as the show was preempted on Labor Day. Below are my thoughts on the nuptials.
The couple were overdressed when they arrived at Carly (Laura Wright) and Sonny's (Maurice Benard) home. Their family had other outfits, so they got changed into more appropriate attire. Sam had her sisters Kristina (Lexi Ainsworth) and Molly (Hayley Pullos) along with her mother Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) on her side. Jason had Michael (Chad Duell) along with his sons Jake and Danny. Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) came back to Port Charles to be part of his best friends' wedding. He went online, got ordained and officiated.
Due to what was going on at the hospital, Monica (Leslie Charleson) didn't make her son's wedding. That said I was glad she was invited even if it would have been awkward for her to go spend time with Sonny. Also missing were Carly's other children Morgan and Joss, which was left unexplained on the day. (Morgan's lack of attendance was mentioned on the September 7th episode as he was at work.) None of the Quartermaines were at the event beyond the aforementioned Michael, and Sam's brother Lucas, brother-in-law Brad, and half-brother baby Leo were also ignored. While in her hospital bed, Liz (Rebecca Herbst) was told about the wedding, by Sabrina (Teresa Castillo) who spent time with her friend instead of going as Michael's date. Sabrina realized something was wrong with Liz's health.
The wedding was short, but sweet. Spinelli figured that Jason and Sam would create their own vows. They did on the fly, and no mention was made of the phoenix or the dragon. After the ceremony, the boys wanted chocolate cake. They were disappointed, and were told when they get married they get to chose the cake, but today they would have to settle for vanilla. Carly said she had chocolate syrup, they could add later.
Sonny, Carly, Sam, Jason, and Spinelli toasted by themselves. Sam admitted she was pregnant, and the others were happy for them. Jason left due to Liz's health problems, and Sam having a craving went with Spinelli to the Floating Rib. Spinelli and Sonny had a moment which nearly became a hug, but not so fast.
It was nice to see a wedding where the couple and those in attendance were happy. There was no strife, disgust or interruptions. I wish there would be more ceremonies like this. While not many people were there, there were no glaring omissions, to annoy and frustrate me, which I also appreciated.
