On Wednesday, February 4, 2015 Emmyonline.org posted the 42nd annual drama performer pre-nominations. The final nominees will be announced on March 26, 2015. The winners again will be decided based on who got the most votes during this round. Below is the list and my thoughts on those who were included this year.
This year there are only four soaps that are eligible for prenominations in the soap opera categories: "The Bold and the Beautiful", "Days of Our Lives", "General Hospital", and "The Young and the Restless". Since there are so few younger actors, there was no need for a ballot to get their prenominees and everyone who submitted was included in this list.
Lead Actress
Tracey Bregman (Lauren, Y&R)
Jessica Collins (Avery, Y&R)
Melissa Claire Egan (Chelsea, Y&R)
Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke, B&B)
Peggy McCay (Caroline, DAYS)
Alison Sweeney (Sami, DAYS)
Gina Tognoni (Phyllis, Y&R)
Heather Tom (Katie, B&B)
Maura West (Ava, GH)
Laura Wright (Carly, GH)
Last year's winner Eileen Davidson as Kristen on Days isn't on the ballot. The B&B actresses made last year's final ballot, but none of the others did. Seeing Melissa Claire Egan listed as a lead amused me in a way, because she was nominated five times in supporting without a win. Let's see if swapping categories changed her luck. By show it breaks down as 4 for Y&R, 2 for B&B, 2 for DAYS, and 2 for GH.
Lead Actor
Peter Bergman (Jack, Y&R)
Eric Braeden (Victor, Y&R)
Tyler Christopher (Nikolas, GH)
Daniel Cosgrove (Aiden, DAYS)
Doug Davidson (Paul, Y&R)
Anthony Geary (Luke, GH)
Justin Hartley (Adam, Y&R)
Christian LeBlanc (Michael, Y&R)
John McCook (Eric, B&B)
Billy Miller (Billy, Y&R)
Jason Thompson (Patrick, GH)
Last year's winner Billy Miller is in the category again though he appeared on Y&R for less than three months in 2014. All of the people who were nominated last year, are in the prenomination round, so we could have something extremely familiar for the final list. By show it breaks down as 6 for Y&R, 1 for B&B, 1 for DAYS and 3 for GH.
Supporting Actress
Linsey Godfrey (Caroline, B&B)
Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis, GH)
Amelia Heinle (Victoria, Y&R)
Elizabeth Hendrickson (Chloe, Y&R)
Finola Hughes (Anna, GH)
Lisa LoCicero (Olivia, GH)
Kim Matula (Hope, B&B)
Cady McClain (Kelly, Y&R)
Michelle Stafford (Nina, GH)
Chrishell Stause (Jordan, DAYS)
Kelly Sullivan (Sage, Y&R)
Last year's winner Amelia Heinle is on the list again. That being said, we should have at least two or three new nominees in this category when we see the final list. It looks like the B&B ladies both aged out of the younger actress, so they are in the supporting category. Thankfully this category isn't just with Y&R and GH stars like 2014. By show it breaks down as 4 for Y&R, 2 for B&B, 1 for DAYS and 4 for GH.
Supporting Actor
Blake Berris (Nick, DAYS)
Darin Brooks (Wyatt, B&B)
Steve Burton (Dylan, Y&R)
Sean Carrigan (Ben, Y&R)
Scott Clifton (Liam, B&B)
Chad Duell (Michael, GH)
Bryton James (Devon, Y&R)
Eric Martsolf (Brady, DAYS)
Kristoff St. John (Neil, Y&R)
Jacob Young (Rick, B&B)
Last year's winner Eric Martsolf is prenominated again. Most of the people on the list haven't won Emmys in this category or for the character they were nominated for in 2015. Some of the actors are former younger actor nominees or winners who have aged out of the category. By show it breaks down as 4 for Y&R, 2 for B&B, 2 for DAYS, and 1 for GH.
Younger Actress
Kristen Alderson (Kiki, GH)
Camila Banus (Gabi, DAYS)
Lauren Boles (Ciara, DAYS)
Ashleigh Brewer (Ivy, B&B)
Camryn Grimes (Mariah, Y&R)
Hunter King (Summer, Y&R)
True O'Brien (Paige, DAYS)
Ashlyn Pearce (Aly, B&B)
Haley Pullos (Molly, GH)
Last year's winner Hunter King is prenominated again. Otherwise only Kristen and Camryn have won this category, though they were playing different characters at that time. By show is breaks down as 2 for Y&R, 3 for DAYS, 2 for B&B and 1 for GH.
Younger Actor
Bryan Craig (Morgan, GH)
Max Ehrich (Fen, Y&R)
Connor Kalopsis (Chase, DAYS)
Casey Moss (JJ, DAYS)
Max Page (Reed, Y&R)
Terrell Ransom Jr. (Theo, DAYS)
Tequan Richmond (TJ, GH)
Freddie Smith (Sonny, DAYS)
Last year's winner was Chandler Massey (who won the award three years in a row as Will on Days of Our Lives.) Since he is no longer on the program, there will be a new winner in this category as none of the nominees are prior winners. By show it breaks down as 2 for Y&R, 2 for GH, 4 for DAYS and none for B&B as none of their actors met the age requirement and submitted themselves for nomination.
Congrats to everyone on the ballot.
This blog is mainly about soaps, though it will sometimes veer into other topics. The main purpose is to provide a space for when board discussion isn't enough as sometimes my thoughts and feelings take on a life of their own. Even if some of the shows I enjoy have been cancelled, I will continue to post about them. They may take away the shows, but they can't destroy the love.
