GH: Thoughts on the Wedding of Kate & Sonny

Last week on General Hospital, Kate (Kelly Sullivan) and Sonny (Maurice Benard) were to be married. Like their last wedding ceremony this one didn't end with an "I do" as Kate's alter Connie admitted at the altar that she was married to Johnny (Brandon Barash). Here are my thoughts on the wedding and the parties before the "special" day.

For weeks it seemed that Kate had disappeared and her alter Connie was in charge. Kate had discovered that Trey (Erik Valdez) was her son, and she couldn't handle that news. Connie kept this knowledge a secret as Sonny and others unravelled this twisted history. While Trey married Kristina (Lindsey Morgan) for the wrong reason and lied to her about it, during the wedding he saved her life. She had been kidnapped by his father Joe (Richard Steinmetz), and planned to kill her so Trey would get the inheritance. The irony of the situation is most of Kristina's money isn't from Sonny, but from her Cassadine roots, so he really wouldn't be hurting Sonny from a money standpoint.

Connie had Maxie (Kirsten Storms) create a unique bachelorette party for her at "The Floating Rib". The thing she wanted most was a stripped and with Lulu's (Julie Marie Berman) prodding Milo (Drew Cheetwood) took the job. When alone Connie pulled Milo into a kiss, and he wanted to tell the truth to Sonny. His brother Max (Derk Cheetwood) stopped him, though if Milo had told the truth a lot of this could have been avoided. Olivia (Lisa LoCicero) saw what was going on, but was told she was just hallucinating. Sonny's event was more traditional as it was just the guys hanging out at his restaurant. Poker was played and Sonny threatened Trey.

Getting back to the wedding ceremony, bedlam broke out after Connie announced herself. If someone had listened to Olivia again much of this wouldn't have happened. It was kind of sad that both her son Dante (Dominic Zampronga) and boyfriend Steve (Scott Reeves) didn't believe her. If it had been one weird thing she noticed, I could see them thinking it was false, but that was not the case.

As Michael's (Chad Duell) girlfriend, Starr (Kristen Alderson) was at the wedding. When she found out that Kate was Connie, she attacked the woman who she believes killed Cole and Hope. Connie blackmailed Johnny into marriage as he really was responsible for the accident that took Cole and Hope from Starr. Carly (Laura Wright) was horrified to hear Connie's story that she and Johnny had been having an affair for months. She even divorced her estranged husband Jax before he left town, thinking perhaps she has a future with Johnny, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

What I appreciated about all of this material is that it felt like GH was writing to get to a situation. It was numerous climaxes within one week of shows. Some of the other fallout from last week, I will discuss in a later post regarding Jason, Sam and Elizabeth.
