On General Hospital, Jason (Steve Burton) and Sam (Kelly Monaco) spontaneously eloped. While they plan to marry the next day, Sam and Jason decided to take a motorcycle ride to cool off, and ended up newly married.
Jason saw Sam in her gown, while she was preparing for their wedding. They both agreed that this formal event wasn’t what they wanted after all. That said they were going to go through with the large ceremony because they wanted to be married. Sam even was able to get Jason to dance with her.
On their ride, Sam and Jason became hungry and ended up at a Chinese restaurant. Normally only people in the neighborhood go there. It was closing time and they were told that they were closed. Jason and Sam spoke to the younger guy Robert, who was able to get his grandparents to feed them. Like Jason, he was into motorcycles. What was funny was it was asked if they were running from the law to show up there. The answer to that was no. It is understandable though if the grandparents found them familiar as Jason and Sam both have been in the public eye for various reasons.
Sam and Jason got to talking about their wedding. Robert told them he could marry them. Thankfully, Jason had the marriage license with him. They also had rings, Sam had the one Monica gave her that belonged to Jason’s late father Alan; while Jason had Lila’s ring that was given to him by his grandfather Edward. They exchanged rings and vows. Robert mentioned the power of the color of red, and how the dragon and the phoenix make the perfect pair. They kissed and thanked them for the wedding, which took place in the backyard at night. Sam gave the shoes Maxie gave her as a gift with a leopard print to Robert’s grandmother as she loved them. It was fitting that they got married in clothing that spoke to who Sam and Jason are as people.
When I saw the Chinese restaurant, and then saw the guy’s name was Robert I wondered if that was a tie-in to the 1980s. The audience was told that Port Charles has an Asian Quarter. Since Robin was involved in that story, I wondered was Robert, named after Robert Scorpio or were they just having a bit of fun with the audience.
I’m glad that Sam and Jason were given the time to have an enjoyable wedding that spoke to them as characters. It wasn’t about pageantry, but about character.
