Right now Days of Our Lives is clearing the decks and the revamp is supposed to be on September 26. The September 23 episode is a clip show with characters discussing the past and I plan to write about that as I hope to enjoy it. This entry has spoilers, but isn't about the people coming back that's left for another entry once we see them.
So this week it is goodbye to Dario (Francisco San Martin), who already left town for a job in Buenos Aires. Melanie (Molly Burnett) was heartbroken, but if meant to be it would happen. Days ended that relationship before it began.
We still have to say goodbye to Taylor (Tamara Braun), Carly (Crystal Chappell), Vivian (Louise Sorel), Chloe (Nadia Bjorlin) and a temporary ciao to Quinn (Bren Foster). Hopefully the door will be open for the characters to come back in the future. This time next week, all of these characters should be outside of Salem. That’s a lot of turn over in a very short time.
Right now it feels like a bit of sitting ducks as we’ve gotten a decent amount of airtime for those who will be gone in under two weeks. We’ve also had two musical montages with fashion elements over a two-day period. On Monday, it was the college guys and gals (plus Melanie) and on Tuesday it was Sami (Ali Sweeney) trying on outfits for a job interview. If I didn’t know what was going on I would have been perplexed by it. The only nice thing was having Sonny (Freddie Smith) wear the suit that Justin (Wally Kurth) wore when he and Adrienne (Judi Evans) got married all those years ago in Greece. This was based on an invitation in the pocket. Obviously I doubt it was really the suit, but it was a nice touch, especially since the actors have spoiled that they haven’t been working much if at all since the revamp. They’ll be at the big party, but not much else has been said.
The one scene I did appreciate was last week how Bo (Peter Reckell) and Hope (Kristian Alfonso) talked about the party that was in honor of something her grandma Alice wanted. That material was great, as I still miss the character of Alice (Frances Reid).
Changing things when they aren’t working is understandable. Though I am concerned that this quick changing and clearing of the deck won’t work. Of course, we shall see if the returns help or hurt the ratings of Days of Our Lives.
