Here is my summary on the first three shows of All My Children’s final week on ABC. We only have two more shows to air, and it is starting to hit me fast that the end isn’t near, it is just about here. The first three shows of the week had a family focus. Monday was about the Hubbards, Tuesday was about the Kane/Montgomery group and Wednesday was about the Martins. Each family gathering ended with a photograph along with a montage of past scenes. Unfortunately some characters were omitted and they didn’t show different performers if the part was now played by another person. There were other characters shown on these episodes, but those were the primary groupings.
Monday’s episode had everyone rejoicing over the news that Angie (Debbi Morgan) can see again. Jesse (Darnell Williams) came to Krystal’s to tell his kids (Natalia and Frankie) and their love interests (Natalia’s fiancĂ© Brot, and Frankie’s wife Randi) about Angie. The Hubbards have a lot to celebrate even with the sadness of Ellie’s death. Meanwhile, Maya came to a decision about what to do with Lucy. She was staying with Liza and Colby, but missed her life with the Hubbards. Brot found the abandoned baby, and gave him to Jesse. The baby named Lucy was raised as a Hubbard, and Maya became her nanny. Since it is a soap opera, of course Maya is Lucy’s biological mother. Angie got to see Maya and Lucy for the first time, and Maya said she wanted to come home to Jesse and Angie’s loft. Maya loved Angie and Jesse like family and the feeling was mutual. The clips from throughout the years were appreciated.
Tuesday’s episode was about Erica’s newest book and her movie. Bianca wasn’t happy about it, and her girlfriend said she’d rather know Bianca for her and not via a book. Sarah Michelle Gellar playing Kendall was also mentioned an obvious wink to how she originated the role. There were comments made in character directly to the camera. The Kane/Montgomery clan is certainly a combined one. We have Jack and Erica, Jack’s daughter Greenlee, son-in-law Ryan, and Ryan’s daughter Emma, Erica’s two daughters Kendall and Bianca, Kendall’s husband Zach, her two sons Spike and Ian and Bianca’s love Marissa, Marissa’s adopted son AJ (who is also her nephew), and Bianca’s daughter Miranda and Gabby. On top of that, Jack is also Bianca’s uncle, Ryan is the father of Kendall’s son Spike, and Zach is the biological father of Gabby and Miranda’s blood too. Of course, the show ignores Zach’s ties to Bianca’s children. Myrtle who was loved by all in attendance was also mentioned and a charity now exists in her name. While they are together and a family, they aren’t leaving things as settled as the Hubbard clan.
Wednesday’s episode was about the Martins. This episode was dedicated to the late Mary Fickett who originated the role of Ruth Martin. It also featured cameo appearances by Sarah Michelle Gellar (who believes she can fight vampires, and is Erica’s daughter, so a combination of Buffy and something else) and Eva LaRue as Maria who lives in Miami (fitting with Eva being on CSI:Miami). Joe and Ruth came back to Pine Valley and Joe is going to be filling in as chief of staff at the hospital. Jake and Amanda talked about expanding their loft for when they adopt a child to be a sibling to their son Trevor. Jamie (Tad’s son with Brooke) also came for a visit. While Tad and Dixie became re-engaged, during humorous scenes in the park that the rest of the family heard over a cellphone, Dixie’s son JR became further unhinged. He saw his late wife Babe, and is losing his mind. Then he went back to the Chandler mansion and saw his father Adam and Brooke. Adam disinherited JR for now. Meanwhile at the police station, Angie was able to convince Jesse to let David help his missing patient. That patient was revealed to be Adam’s brother Stuart (David Canary). This episode also featured references to the late Kate Martin, and Myrtle (as her boutique is where Dixie and Tad met).
Out of the three days, I found Monday and Wednesday to be more emotional than Tuesday. Perhaps it was due to how more “original” actors were in the parts and the returns. Two more shows to go before the book closes on ABC, just typing that fills the eyes with tears. I’m going to miss being a guest into the lives of the people of Pine Valley.
