B&B: Liam gets Engaged Again

This week on The Bold & the Beautiful, Liam (Scott Clifton) lost Hope (Kimberly Matula) and became engaged to Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood). In the matter of one episode Liam lost one fiancé and gained another, say what? Let’s go back and explain what happened…

Hope wouldn’t agree to sleep with Liam until they were married, which frustrated him a lot. Liam’s father Bill (Don Diamont) felt like Hope wasn’t the girl for his son. He realized his former lover Steffy was interested in Liam, since Liam saved her life. So instead of supporting his son’s engagement, he plotted with his ex to bring down the relationship. What causes this to be more tangled is that Bill is married to Hope’s aunt Katie (Heather Tom) and Steffy and Hope are both members of the Forrester family. While Eric isn’t Hope or Steffy’s grandfather biologically, he sees them as his granddaughters for example.

Liam wanted to get married earlier than planned, so Hope would finally sleep with him. Due to her fashion line “Hope for the Future”, she couldn’t move up the ceremony. She decided to move in with Liam prior to the ceremony as she felt married, and planned to tell him after the bachelor party. Liam was devastated, but went to his party, where he was miserable, as he had no idea of Hope’s plan. Hope’s brother Rick, who just returned back to LA followed Liam home and saw what was going on with Steffy and Liam. Hope also saw them kissing in a car. Rick comforted his little sister and took her to see their mom Brooke along with Ridge (who is also Steffy’s dad, but the love of their mother’s life.)

While Hope was being consoled, Liam was shocked to find Hope’s engagement ring on his mantle. He mistakenly thought that Hope broke the engagement, because her work was more important. He had no idea, that she saw him kissing Steffy. If Hope had told Liam before the party, things would have turned out very differently. Liam was hurting and knew that Steffy wanted him, and decided to take her up on her offer to be his girlfriend. He proposed using the ring that Hope left behind at his home.

A montage was shown that started with Hope remembering happy times with Liam as the song “Will You Marry Me” by Bianca Moon played. This morphed into the song “Arms” by Christine Perri, as Liam and Steffy were in bed. I found it interesting that B&B took the time to give each couple their own music, as that isn’t done much in daytime anymore and that was a staple.

Hope ending her relationship with Liam puts a serious kink in not just their lives, but Forrester Creations. Ridge had put all the advertising money into her campaign, and much of it was focused on the wedding. Steffy’s intimates line was squashed (for being too risqué) and Thomas’ for his lies about Brooke. This may completely shatter the fragile relationship among those at the top at the company. Trying to explain to the public, that Hope’s fiancé is now Steffy’s would be a major controversy, but that could hurt their bottom line severely. As Hope still loves Liam, and Liam loves Hope, it is possible that they will reunite again, but for now Steffy is victorious.
