Days: Caroline Switching the DNA

This week it was revealed that Caroline Brady switched the DNA results for Chloe’s baby on Days of Our Lives. Well color me shocked. Here are my thoughts pro and con about this revelation as I am not sure if I like idea.

Pro: This was an actual twist and surprising. If we (meaning viewers) had to guess three months ago who the culprit was, Caroline would have been a very unlikely choice.

Con: Since Caroline wasn’t in the story until now seeing that she is the culprit is a cop out. How can we guess someone is guilty if we have no idea the character knew what was going on with Chloe’s pregnancy?

Pro: Caroline has a past of keeping a paternity secret. She lied about Bo being Victor’s son until he was an adult.

Con: Considering how hard it was for Bo to deal with the lies he was told, why would she or anyone want to see another person go through that kind of pain?

Pro: Caroline has major long-term issues with the Kiriakis family as shown by not telling Victor about Bo. These issues continued with the younger generation as Victor’s son Philip broke her granddaughter Stephanie’s heart by sleeping with Melanie after she was kidnapped and nearly killed. Also Philip’s biological son Tyler was nearly adopted by Caroline’s daughter Kayla along with her husband Steve. They were unable to keep the boy. So Philip seems to be nearly a chip off the old block hurting the Brady family.

Con: If Caroline really wants to help her family, hurting the Kirakis family isn’t helping matters. It won’t get Tyler back to Kayla and Steve. Turning into a person like Victor isn’t going to make Victor love her.

Pro: Caroline is jealous of Victor’s recent affections for Maggie. Even when Caroline was married to the now deceased Shawn, she appreciated Victor’s fawning over her. Now, Victor is ignoring Caroline and doing something that deceitful will certain put her back on his radar. Isn’t negative attention better than no attention at all?

Con: If Caroline really wanted Victor, she should have done something about it like telling him the truth. This is extremely passive aggressive, and in some ways she is becoming like Victor. Caroline is supposed to set a good example for her family and yet she does something that insane for a man. Has she totally lost her mind?

Pro: Caroline wants Victor and Philip to suffer.

Con: The problem is since neither knows that Chloe’s baby is Philip’s child, how are they suffering? You can miss something you don’t know and in Philip’s case he is glad to hold on to his wife Melanie. Of course since Daniel is Victor's godson, it isn't as if this child won't be in the lives of the Kiriakis family.

Pro: In Caroline’s mind, she was doing Stephanie a favor, by keeping Melanie and Philip’s marriage in tact. Caroline and Stephanie both realize that if Melanie and Philip divorce that Nathan will be there to pick up the pieces.

Con: Stephanie should be more than second best in her relationship. She should not be marrying Nathan who has feelings for someone else. Caroline should realize this and want her granddaughter to be loved fully. Nathan may be a good guy and a doctor, but the relationship is too lopsided.

Pro: It has been established that Caroline is thankful for Daniel’s skills as a doctor even if he hurt her granddaughter Chelsea by getting involved with her other grandmother Kate. Daniel saved Bo’s life and that is worth something. Of course, I doubt Daniel will see it that way as he was lied to by all of these people.

Con: If she really liked Daniel, Caroline would respect him enough to tell him the truth. Even if Daniel loves Chloe and the baby, it isn’t fair to him to live a lie. When it comes to her feelings about Chloe, I am not sure. While Brady is a relative as his grandmother was a sister of Caroline’s late husband, they aren’t close. Brady is Victor’s grandson, but while married to Chloe, he became an addict. If she has issues with Chloe like a lot of people do, this action may have been seen as hurting Chloe somehow or perhaps in Caroline's mind she was helping.

Even if the decision to make Caroline the DNA swapper, was controversial, hopefully it will provide a good amount of story. Kayla’s reaction to Caroline’s duplicity was strong. She was incredulous that Caroline would have the skills to get into the computer system at a hospital as a volunteer. I agree with that reservation, as I find that highly unlikely, but I am glad that Days acknowledged that stretch. Hopefully the others will follow suit when the truth comes out, as Chloe and Philip most likely would have done the right thing and acknowledged Philip as the father of her child.
