Thanksgiving in Soapland 2010

This is just a short summary of what happened on the soaps (All My Children, Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, One Life to Live and The Young & the Restless) I watched over the American Thanksgiving holiday. These are just short blurbs (125 words or less), so things are missing.

All My Children: AMC had a sad Thanksgiving. While there was a children’s play, it served as a reminder of Zach’s death as Spike mentioned being thankful for his stepfather during the event. Before the end of the episode, Kendall shared the news about Zach with him. The Hubbards were with the Martins and we saw Jenny and Kathy too. Tad and Jake stole a turkey, but that wasn’t the only crime of the day. Erica shot David Hayward in the back as he was fighting with Ryan. While that may want people to tune in tomorrow or set their DVRs to record the next day, seeing a holiday episode end in that fashion darkened my mood quickly.

Days of Our Lives: That was Thanksgiving. I didn’t even recognize it. Granted in Salem, Thanksgiving was never one of their biggest holidays, but it got the shaft this year. When Hope, Doug and Julie talked about sharing the holiday together, beforehand and we didn’t see it I was disappointed. While a jailhouse Thanksgiving may not be that festive at least we would have seen family together. Sami marrying Rafe and then being separated from Johnny and Sydney is not inspiring. Neither is seeing Maggie in the hospital, or Nathan and Melanie battling for their lives. I hope Christmas will be better, but even if it is the feeling at the Hortons may be bittersweet as both Alice and Mickey have passed since Christmas 2009.

General Hospital: The annual Quartermaine event was attended by Edward, Tracy, Maya, Luke, Ethan, Lulu, Dante, Lucky Siobhan and Michael, per tradition they sang “We gather together” and enjoyed pizza. Edward was thrilled to spend the day with his great-grandson, whose mother Carly, stepfather Jax, brother Morgan and baby sister Josslyn were in NYC and off screen. Patrick visited a recovering Robin and brought along their daughter Emma. The Davis table was crowded as the girls conspired again to unite Mac and Alexis. Kristina, Maxie, Sam, Diane, Max, Spinelli and Matt were all in attendance. Molly was in California with her Dad, Ric. This episode was fun and reminiscent of past Thanksgivings.

One Life to Live: Thanksgiving in Llanview tried to combine action without forgetting celebration. Eddie came to La Boulet and hit James after calling Starr some awful things, while appreciating Blair’s beauty. Dorian called Bo who had been with his family at the Buchanan Mansion as well as his brother and assistant Inez. We saw short holiday speeches from Viki, Dorian, Clint and Tea. Tea, Todd and Dani had a quiet event even if Destiny and Nate were with them. They had a lot to be thankful for as Tea, Todd and Dani all had to fight for their lives. Joey came home, which was a happy surprise for Viki. There was one extremely non-festive moment as Clint propositioned Inez to sleep with Bo.

The Young and the Restless: Characters came together for Thanksgiving and they remembered the holiday. Reed may not have been in Genoa City, but that didn’t stop him from videochatting with his mother Victoria. Victor who alienated his family was visited by his daughter Abby. They made peace that was quickly shattered. At the Chancellor Mansion, Kay and her close family and friends spent the holiday together. Both Kay and Murphy have been hospitalized, so being home was a blessing. Ronan stopped by, so Nina could see one of her sons, but he hides a secret health problem. Chloe and Kevin spent time with the Chancellors as well as with Lauren and Michael.
