General Hospital’s Ethan Lovett and Maya Ward were in for a shock when they discovered they got married while in Las Vegas. Having a lot to drink, they blacked out, said vows and signed the paperwork.
Ethan and Maya went as chaperones for Tracy and Luke, who had “married” in Vegas years earlier. That marriage wasn’t valid, but Luke allowed her to believe it was and bilked her out of a millions of dollars. Luke and Tracy do love each other, but the couple name of Lunacy is not completely inaccurate. The duo really gets off on making each other crazy. Ethan is Luke’s son, and Maya is a great-grandchild of Tracy’s father Edward. They had started to spend time together after Maya helped Luke and Ethan lie to Tracy about Luke being sick.
Meanwhile Ethan and Maya are kind of in the opposite situation than Luke and Tracy. They like one another but aren’t in a serious relationship. While they had gone on a couple of dates and kissed, they hadn’t slept together before they were married. Maya had a past with bad boys and Ethan is a con artist who works for mobster Johnny when not dealing cards/tending bar at the Haunted Star. Ethan isn’t the kind of guy one brings home to mother. They were waiting on an attorney for an annulment when they consummated the ceremony. Since they were so drunk, it would have been possible for an annulment anyway, but decided to think about what they were going to do.
Getting back to Port Charles, Ethan carried Maya over the threshold of the Quartermaine mansion. From what we saw in Vegas and how much fun they had having sex, they may want to stay together for the time being. Instead of being horrified over the wedding, Edward was happy for them. He told Maya and Ethan he would give them a million dollars if they were to stay married for a year. His relationship with Maya’s great-grandmother would have never worked out due to the racial issues in those times, but now an interracial romance is not as big of a deal. Ethan made a counteroffer of a million dollars tax free, and Edward agreed. Maya would never have to ask the Quartermaine family for anything again if they are successfully wed for a year. Ethan can enjoy the good life and that’s all he seems to want.
As a viewer, I am not sure if we are supposed to root for Maya and Ethan. There marriage was so unexpected and different. How many people fall in love after getting married accidentally in Las Vegas while drunk? Then again perhaps I just appreciate that GH was doing a story in which the plot isn’t predictable. No first love, marriage and baby carriage for Maya and Ethan.
This marriage may only exist to cause conflict for both Maya and Ethan individually. Imagine if either fell in love with someone else, before the year was up, would they forfeit the money for the new relationship? Or it is also possible that one or the other will discover they have romantic feelings while the other one sees them just as friends. Hopefully this story will run for a time, and allow us to know Maya better as a character outside of being a doctor at General Hospital.

Thanks.let's help Ethan & Maya stay together. Both need someone to be there for each other and one big fat win. Even thought they are opposite they work. Ethan needs someone who is strong and able to stand up to him. Remember he is Luke's son. I think any women who he can control will bore him to death. Remember on Thanksgiving Day when Maya told if she was easy he would not have stay & he reply true. Ethan & Kristina Please don't kill the air and take away Ethan charm. Kristina is a whine and emotional killer also nosy esp. about Micheal.My brother & I've 3 would have knock me up side the head trying to be in ther business. Strange but I do love Maya& Ethan together is just works Vegas are no Vegas the feels were strong from the start.
All for Maya& Ethan they are opposite in all areas. But that is what makes them work so well and keep you ion your toes. Ethan & Maya both have earned a win.Both have had bad relationship and big heart break also people who did not believed in them. They both needs someone strong in there life to stand up to each other.Ethan is a charmer and is used to getting his on way on thing and to have someone say No is a change.She makes him want to be a better person and he allows her to have fun without judgement.No matter how they got there they earned it along time ago.Maya bad boy ex.(killed),Ethan negative comments from ex.(after parent death). They can be them selves like they can't always be when around others. Raise Your Glass & Cheer Them On!!!!!They just make it work.
