Days: Steve & Kayla Wed Again

Valentine's Day finally brought the remarriage of Steve (Stephen Nichols) and Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) on "Days of Our Lives". The couple, who has been on and off since 1986, and share two adult children had a happy day surrounded by many of their friends and family. Below are my thoughts about the nuptials.

Obviously, I was glad that Steve and Kayla got married again, as I was unhappy about how they had them divorce when Steve was in absentia. It feels like they "fixed" something that shouldn't have been broken. Instead of having the wedding at a place that had significance to Steve and Kayla they got married at Club TBD. Yes I know Club TBD was the Cheating Heart, where they had history, but it wasn't mentioned, so it felt like the location was solely picked as it was indoors, not the pub, and big enough to have more than 5 or 6 characters in the same scene. Abe (James Reynolds) officiated the ceremony and at one point it was thought that the program would pair him with Kayla, but that never came to pass. It was great that they thought to bring Stephanie (Shelley Hennig) back for a visit, as it would have been strange for the duo to marry without their daughter in attendance. Before the wedding Stephanie and Joey (James Lastovic) spoke, and that was the first real scenes they had, as Joey was SORASed and when Stephanie was around last he was a baby.

The wedding and reception took place during one episode (February 16, 2017), which wasn't a lot, but hey there even were unrecognizable extras in the background. Hope (Kristian Alfonso) who was finally cleared of the charges surprised everyone by appearing though she didn't have a gift. Doug (Bill Hayes) and Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) were there as friends, though obviously needed to be able to greet Hope. While Stephanie and Joey were standing up for their parents, in some ways, Shane (Charles Shaughnessy) and Marlena (Deidre Hall) played the best man and matron of honor roles. Shane hung out with Steve before the ceremony, and Marlena coordinated the something old/something new tradition. Kayla wore white, while Steve was given a bright though black suit. Claire (Olivia Rose Keegan) and Theo (Kyler Pettis) danced together were there with their respective families. Ciara (Vivian Jovanni) continued to feel jealous. Jade (Gabrielle Haugh) came as Joey's guest even if they aren't tougher currently. Claire caught the bridal bouquet, but gave it to her great-grandpa Doug and great aunt Julie. Roman (Josh Taylor) reminded Steve that he wasn't to mess up with Kayla or he'd get it from his brother-in-law. Roman also got a chance to reconnect with his daughter Carrie (Christie Clark) and son-in-law Austin (Austin Peck). Adrienne (Judi Evans) found out from Paul (Christopher Sean) that Sonny was missing, which is why he wasn't at the wedding. Rafe (Galen Gering) and Valerie (Vanessa A. Williams) were their with Hope and Abe respectively.

Many characters were missing, Kim was mentioned but out of state. Jennifer (Missy Reeves) showed up during the reception, but none of her kids showed up, and they're first cousins to Stephanie and Joey. Kayla's mother Caroline (Peggy McCay) wasn't on, we're still in the midst of Drake Hogestyn's leave so no John either and the people involved in the custody battle also stayed away. This wasn't a full cast event, but it was decent for Days now, though if it was the 80s it would have been a sparsely attended event.

Anyway, I'm glad that we finally got Steve and Kayla's wedding and first night of marriage. Let's hope it sticks, as I don't want to see them go through this again.
