Y&R: The Cassie Reveal

This past week it was revealed that "Cassie" (Camryn Grimes) was really Mariah, Tyler's ex-fiance and she was working with Ian Ward too. Below are my thoughts about this situation on "The Young and the Restless" in pro and con format.

Pro: Making Mariah into the Cassie doppelganger has the program using a familiar actress in a new role. It allows the character to not just be in Nick and Sharon's story, but also be integrated into Abby and Tyler's life.

Con: It feels like making her Mariah was a rewrite as when Tyler was first introduced it was inferred that she looked like Lily. Lily and Mariah look nothing alike, though Lily and Cassie were great friends, so perhaps that will be addressed.

Pro: Ian Ward has another reason to be on canvas, which is a good thing if one likes Ian. If anything by linking Ian to Mariah, it gives Nikki and the others even more reason to be upset with Victor.

Con: Ian was great as a short-term villain and having him in a long term story may be difficult. He is a rapist after all, though Nikki can't prove it.

Pro: I appreciated how Sharon and Nicholas handled the situation. Of course, Sharon wouldn't be able to prosecute someone who looked like Cassie, while Nicholas would want her to pay. I also liked that Nikki was livid with Victor and moved out of the ranch.

Con: Victor's reason for having Cassie spook Sharon was because of her huge lie. No one on canvas knows what Sharon was keeping from everyone, but how will that play out long term. Sharon caused Phyllis to be comatose, as the women fought after the redhead discovered that Sharon changed Summer's paternity results. While what Victor did was extremely wrong, if everyone forgives him, that would be ridiculous, but Sharon also is at fault. I fear that the story won't be played out in a way that is realistic within the framework of the program, but we shall see.

As this story is developing, I just shared my initial thoughts on the topic. I hope that Mariah as a character doesn't wash out after six months like many of the other "twin" stories they've had on Y&R in recent years. While I feel that the program has done too many lookalike plots, at least this one doesn't involve two "Cassie" characters.
