Days: Will & Sonny Get Married

This blog entry is about Will and Sonny's bachelor party and wedding on Days of Our Lives that aired the week of March 31, 2014.

Will (Guy Wilson) and Sonny (Freddie Smith) had their bachelor party at the TBD club. JJ was glad to be at a party for a wedding for people who aren't old. There was also discussion about how in the future this wedding won't be seen as a big deal. T made the major speech as the best man and talked about his former homophobia. A female stripper cop shows up, she dances first with Sonny and then with Will. She has no idea they are marrying each other. She decides to give them her services for free as it ended very quickly and obviously she isn't who T expected. The bachelor party was kind of odd as Abby and Gabi were there.

There was an episode of festivities before the wedding. In no particular order: Lucas and Justin spoke about their speeches, Caroline discusses her speech with Kayla, JJ and Abby have a secret about the wedding, Victor defends Will and Sonny's marriage with Maggie listening in unseen, Marlena stresses out about not being able to marry them, and Gabi and Will talk about Ari and their family. After Gabi left, Eric and Will chat and provides him with a gift of cheesehead hats. Rafe and Abe pick up their dates Jordan and Maxine at the hospital. Abby meets Ben. Due to issues with Marlena getting her license to marry Sonny and Will, EJ flies to Chicago. Everyone is starting to arrive at the venue aka Victor's mansion. The next episode continued on with more preparations and everyone mingling at the mansion. In Chicago, EJ finds out why Marlena didn't get the certificate to marry Will and Sonny: Samantha. The guy in charge of the religious order went out with her on a disastrous blind date. I guess this was supposed to be funny.

Marlena stood in the front and Abby and Gabi were the bridesmaids, T and JJ walked together. The moms walked down their sons with Will and Sami going first and then Sonny and Adrienne. Marlena gives an introductory speech and Caroline is introduced as the first speaker. Caroline is confused at first and no one was sure what she was speaking about. She talks about a couple that had been their neighbors, who were in the closet, and how this influenced how she treats her grandson Will and Sonny. Justin made the second speech, which was about how Sonny was fearless and how this will serve him well throughout his life. Lucas spoke about how both he and Sami had issues with Will being gay initially, unlike how Sonny was treated by his parents. They both mention the book that JJ and Abby made to look at during the reception. Sonny spoke his vows followed by Will. Marlena mentioned "Days of Our Lives" during her comments and they were wed.

The reception was rather low key. The guys slow danced as JJ played the guitar. Roman gave his blessing to the couple. There was an embarrassing moment as Theresa got hit with a tray of food. Adrienne and Sami had dueling toasts as both couldn't speak during the ceremony. EJ and Justin interrupted once the women tried to one-up each other on wedding gifts. Kate and Will also spoke before the guys cut the cake. They were both behaved and no one got food smashed. They said goodbye to everyone with hugs and left the mansion with everyone throwing confetti.

This wedding played out like just about any other soap wedding. While the couple was gay, there weren't any major differences except there was no bridal bouquet or garter toss. The drama at the wedding was humor based and there was no major secret coming between the duo. I don't know why, but I found it amusing how Sami was crying so much at the wedding as the character isn't much of a crier. It would have been cool if Victor or Ciara would have been allowed to quip, just for grins and giggles. That being said, I bet she felt relieved that her son didn't follow in her footsteps and have a non-wedding like she's had so many times in the past. The only thing I wish would have been different is that Will's siblings would have had more involvement as they are actually in Salem. Sonny's aren't on the show, so I didn't except to see them.
