This blog is mainly about soaps, though it will sometimes veer into other topics. The main purpose is to provide a space for when board discussion isn't enough as sometimes my thoughts and feelings take on a life of their own. Even if some of the shows I enjoy have been cancelled, I will continue to post about them. They may take away the shows, but they can't destroy the love.

Gossip Girl Finale
On Monday, December 17, 2012, The CW aired Gossip Girl's last episode. The show which filmed primarily in New York City, was primarily about a group students at a Constance Billard School and we followed their lives from that school to adulthood from 2007 - 2012. This spoils the end of the series.
Gossip Girl referred to a website that took tips about the people who went to Constance Billard School posting them online or sending blasts with the latest juicy news. The character of "Gossip Girl" was voiced by Kristen Bell throughout the series, though we never saw her in the part.
Serena (Blake Lively) and Blair (Leighton Meester) are best friends though at times they were rivals. In looks and attitude Serena and Blair were very different. Serena was blonde and seen as good, while Blair was a brunette and a schemer. That said Serena was a lot wilder in her actions than Blair typically. At the beginning of the story, Blair was involved with Nate (Chase Crawford), though that relationship fell apart as Blair developed feelings for Chuck (Ed Westwick) and due to Nate sleeping with Serena. Serena and Chuck never dated, though they were step-siblings as Serena's mother Lily (Kelly Rutherford) eventually married Chuck's father Bart (Robert John Burke). Serena's younger brother Eric (Connor Paolo) came out and was extremely understanding around the craziness. Dan (Penn Badgley) went to school with Serena, Blair, Chuck and Nate though since he was from Brooklyn he was seen as outside of their world. We also met Dan's sister Jenny (Taylor Momsen), their father Rufus (Matthew Settle) who had a past with Lily and Vanessa (Jessica Szohr) who had been Dan's best friend/girlfriend.
As the years progressed Blair and Chuck had a stormy relationship, eventually breaking up over many issues like how he wanted to trade her to his Uncle Jack (Desmond Harrington) for the hotel. They were also apart when Chuck was presumed dead and living in Europe with Eva. Blair's mother Eleanor (Margaret Colin) was a fashion designer and married Cyrus (Wallace Shawn) who Blair came to love.
Serena and Dan also broke up and they both got involved with other people. During one story, Dan thought he was the father of a baby with Georgina Sparks (Michelle Trachtenberg). Serena dated many men including Carter, Nate, Tripp, and Ben. For a time, Blair and Dan dated, but that relationship fizzled after Blair chose Chuck. Blair began loathing Dan after they had been close friends because of how he handled the break up, by writing about their lives. She also felt that Dan was not good enough for Serena.
Nate had a lot of relationships that didn't last long like the one he had with Jenny until she left NYC and also with Bree, Raina and Juliet. He also had one with Lola (Ella Rae Peck) who ended up being Serena's half-sister and cousin. Ivy Dickens (Kaylee DeFer) caused a lot of problems as she acted as if she was Lola eventually inheriting a fortune. In the show's final moments, we found out about a movie starring Ivy and Lola about their lives. In other twisted family relationships, Dan and Serena shared as half-brother as Lily and Rufus had a child together that Lily gave up for adoption.
The show's endgame had Dan revealed as Gossip Girl, as he created the blog back in 9th grade. We saw the reactions of different characters that weren't on the show regularly anymore along with that of Mayor Bloomberg who thought it was Blair's loyal maid Dorota, which was hilarious. That said this caused story inconsistencies, and I look forward to seeing all of those continuity gaffes. Blair and Chuck got married, after Chuck killed his father accidentally after Bart tried to kill him. This was a reason for them to no longer wait to be reunited for good, and also made it impossible for Blair to testify against Chuck.
In the flash forward of five years later, Nate was successful with his newspaper and it was rumored that he would be running for the Mayor of New York City. Chuck and Blair had a son named Henry. Georgina and Chuck's Uncle Jack became a couple. Rufus was involved with Lisa Loeb (yes that Lisa Loeb), Lily was back together with Serena's father, and both Jenny and Eric were happy.
A lot of people seemed to be unhappy with how Gossip Girl ended. While I would have liked certain things to be different, at least the program was given 10 episodes to wrap up the story though less time could have been spent on certain developments like how Nate and Serena dated people in the final season that didn't have a story impact in the flash forward.
