Y&R: Chelsea Gives Birth

On The Young & The Restless Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan best known as All My Children’s Annie) gave birth to her son with Billy (Billy Miller). The pregnancy and birth was fraught with drama, but the baby is here.

Chelsea and Billy had sex while he was estranged from his wife Victoria (Amelia Henlie). They reunited and remarried, even though Chelsea came to town pregnant with Billy’s child. The encounter took place in Myanmar. Chelsea and her mother Anita (Catherine Bach) were in it for the money. It has been revealed that Victoria’s father Victor (Eric Braeden) put Chelsea in Billy’s path. Billy was drugged, but the program is not acting as if he was raped though some viewers may see that to be the case. When Chelsea came to town, she claimed that Billy raped her, which made it even more frustrating in that she was the instigator.

Eventually Chelsea seemed to begin to care about her fetus instead of just a payday. She and Adam (Michael Muhney) became pals. It was an odd friendship, but both characters are outcasts. Victoria and Chelsea fought, and she ran out getting stranded. Chelsea fell through the ice and went into labor. Adam found her and rescued her. He delivered her baby boy. Victoria, Billy and Abby (Marcy Rylan) found Chelsea with the baby, but Adam was nowhere to be found. Adam and Chelsea are keeping Adam’s part in the birth a secret to protect their friendship.

Instead of asking for money, Chelsea agreed to give up her rights to her child. She felt that it was best for the baby even if being his mother would have been best for her. This scene was rather sad, but it was great to see that Chelsea has a conscience.

The other issue with Chelsea is that her father is Jeffrey (Ted Shackleford). Jeffrey and Anita are still married, but Chelsea has no idea. This will eventually blow up I hope. Due to that marriage, Jeffrey committed bigamy when he married Gloria (Judith Chapman) in the dual wedding with Kevin (Greg Rikkart) and Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson).

Victoria has already bonded with the child, and even named him John after Billy’s father. Her original choice was Cecil, which no one liked. The choice of the name John made me squeal at the television in delight, though it will be disappointing if it turns out the boy is not John’s grandson.

Since Victor was involved in the scheme to get Chelsea and Billy together, it is possible that this will blow up in everyone’s faces. We are supposed to trust that Billy is the father due to a DNA test, but since it is Genoa City who really knows. Hopefully, Billy and Victoria will find out the truth before John is grown.
