GH: Sonny's Found Not Guilty

On the Tuesday, April 17, 2012 episode of General Hospital, Sonny (Maurice Bernard) was found not guilty for various charges in the deaths of Cole Thornhart (Van Hughes) and his daughter, three-year-old Hope Manning Thornhart. The trial and jury deliberation lasted less than a week. Many witnesses were called, but none of them held a smoking gun, which led to his conviction.

Cole and Hope are presumed dead as they were travelling in a rental car that blew up with them sitting inside of it. Starr (Kristen Alderson) of course was horrified losing her family. She was able to escape from the car before it went down the hill and passed out, so she didn't actually see the love of her life and their child die. Of course, since we didn't see bodies, I can assume they aren't dead. Since Michael (Chad Duell) was taking care of Starr when the car went over, he was preoccupied and only seemed to see the bang. Thank goodness for that small favor from head writer Ron Carlivati and executive producer Frank Valentini.

Starr tried to go back to Llanview after their "deaths", but couldn't hack it. We didn't see it as One Life to Live's Llanview is no longer on the air. She returned to Port Charles to see justice done. Michael took her in due to their bonding over the accident. Of course, since Michael is Sonny's child this was awkward, but Michael did not care. Everyone told Michael to stay away from Starr, and he didn't listen. Starr got some good advice from John McBain (Michael Easton), who once was Cole’s guardian about how to cope with the case after he apologized for missing court.

Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) won the case as none of the witnesses could say they saw Sonny shoot the tires out of Anthony's (Bruce Weitz) car. It didn't matter that the gun was found in his girlfriend Kate's (Kelly Sullivan) office. We also saw testimony for Anthony’s wife Tracy (Jane Elliot) who truly did not want to be there and didn’t care about the trial. Michael, Johnny (Brandon Barash) and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) also testified. Michael wanted his father to be not guilty, but felt for Starr’s predicament. Johnny hoped that Sonny was guilty, because regardless of what happened Sonny would blame him. Even though Dante is a cop and Sonny’s son, he hoped his father would have not inadvertently killed two innocent people. Michael and Dante were glad that the jury didn't believe that Anthony saw Sonny, in his rearview mirror, so the district attorney played by Mark D. Espinoza (Jesse from Beverly Hills: 90210) lost.

Once the verdict was read, Starr threatened Sonny and said he would pay for what he did to her family. Will Starr get her revenge on the wrong man as it was shown that Sonny was not the mastermind of this crime? Hopefully whoever did it, and it seems like Kate or with her mental issues spending much of the time as her alternative personality Connie is the culprit will pay for the crime. Of course, that is until Starr’s family is found to be alive, but that shouldn’t happen for a good long time.
