Days: And so it Begins

News came out this afternoon, that the firings have begun. TVGuide.com had an interview with Greg Meng, which discussed generalities about the changes, while Soap Opera Digest had specifics of who has been told that they are being written out of Days of Our Lives.

The list of the departures are four performers that entered the canvas as part of the reboot. Matthew Ashford (Jack), Sarah Brown (Madison), Christie Clark (Carrie) and Patrick Muldoon (Austin). More are to come, but that's the list as of today. Here are summaries of their stories.

Jack's big story was coming back from being held hostage and having PTSD. He and his wife Jennifer (Melissa Reeves) reunited and they were finally going to be a family again. Their daughter Abby (Kate Mansi) was thrilled for her parents. Does this mean that Jack and Jennifer are going to be broken up again? Will they write it that Jack is a deadbeat or have him die? I hope they do not go with any of these options as none of them are appealing to me. One plot, I could deal with is is Jack left town due to their son JJ and Jennifer/Abby stayed behind in Salem.

Madison's plot had to do with her cosmetics company and competing with Kate (Lauren Koslow) in that arena. She fell in love with Brady (Eric Marstolf), but was married to Ian (Ian Buchanan). Now Ian and Kate have fallen back into bed with each other. I have no idea how they could write this character out of the story as there are so many viable options.

Carrie and Austin came back to Salem together. In their time in town, they were torn apart. Carrie developed feelings for her brother-in-law Rafe (Galen Gering). Austin became a professor and Abby developed a serious crush on him. While he kissed her, she allowed him to believe that they slept together. This crushed Austin and Carrie's relationship. Perhaps they will get a reunion on their way out of the USA.

We shall see what happens three months or so from now, when these stories will begin airing on Days of Our Lives.
